I hang out on reddit subs for things like mechanical engineering, CAD, FEA, electronics and PCB design. It's not uncommon for people to be asking for help with their software (solidworks, fusion, abaqus, kicad, altium, etc) and posting

I bought christmas mini LED string lights last year from home depot, specifically labeled for outdoor use. Took them out this holiday season, and over half of the strings didn't work anymore. They have replaceable "bulbs", bu

I use Trello with Kanban style columns: to-do (sort of my backlog), pending (waiting on someone else or other external factor), in progress and done. I try to keep to cards in some order of priority.

Someone needs to haul big hunks of steel into the machine, clamo them down tight (and straight), and haul the part out when it's done. Also install tooling, swear when a tap or drill inevitably breaks and gets stuck in a very expensive

It's extremely common to use bitfields though. As mentioned by the article, it is recommended by ARM's CMSIS and thus found in vendor libraries of all cortex MCUs I have seen. arm-none-eabi-gcc changing its behavior for bitfields

Powerquery is a much more powerful alternative to pivot tables in modern excel. For one thing, you can chain queries, SQL style. IE, you can use the table that is the result of a query as input to another query.

Yes, our lecturer referred to it ass the bible, as he had actually taken Heywood's clas on ICEs MIT! It's definitely a huge brick though, can be intimidating. I think he picked the Ferguson book because it's more approachable

Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design and Machinery's Handbook are two classic texts on the design of various mechanical components. For ICEs we used Ferguson and Kirkpatrick when I took a graduate level ICE class. It's con

Generally this process would be called linearization. You can create a complex, nonlinear, numerical model of the full system in as much detail as you want (eg implemented in a block sim like Simulink, or MBD software like ADAMS, or just A

Anecdotally, I've been using loctite C5A (copper anti-seize) on lug nuts for years without an issue. I also torque them to the manufacturer spec with a torque wrench twice a year (when I switch summer/winter tires).

Matlab is awful at being a general-purpose language, anything that isn't wrangling matrices. Strings, paths, networking, etc are all really painful compared to Python or Julia.
