Just wanted to chime in and say I've had a great experience submitting a small bugfix patch to KDE, even as someone new to C++. The dev docs provided a good intro, the devs were helpful in pointing out relevant sections of code (as com

Speaking as a Canadian mechanical engineer: pretty much all raw materials. Metal bars, beams, sheet and plates, etc. Wire in AWG. Cutting tools for machining are also way more common in inch sizing. At least metric fasteners are becoming co

OCaml has subpar windows support. The native version is experimental, otherwise it's cygwin or WSL.

Yes, it is. I work in a university and we were given these masks. The inside is dark grey instead of white, and it even advertises on the box that they are made with graphene. I have worn them for long periods and so have many of my colleag

If you're working with stencil and paste, my understanding is that paste only has a few hours of working time once it's applied, so you have to assemble it in the day.

I share your frustration. Finding a nice case that doesn't have a window is also hard. I guess the demographic that buys PC parts these days is gamers that are into this stuff (as I was when I was 16, anyone remember cold cathodes?).

JIRA would not just overkill but a bad fit for us, potentially requiring extensive configuration. We're an academic research lab that also happens to do contractual work for other labs (mostly internal to the university), mostly design

I use the free tier as a collaborative Kanban board for a tiny 5 person team. Airtable allows me to define arbitrary fields for the Kanban cards, which happens to be a premium/paid feature in all the actual Kanban saas tools (Trello, e

A lot of these sorts of mechanisms have however been made obsolete by modern mechatronics. For example, washing machines used to have complex gear boxes that made that back and forth motion during washes and also had a second mode for high

I'd argue that the reason why HFTs don't do day trading strategies, is because it's not profitable in the long run (ie, negative expected value). Which backs GPs point.

I've worked in many companies (both software and non-software) where ethernet was the only way to access the corporate network. One had WiFi that only gave internet access, the other had no WiFi at all (in 2017).

Based on your comment, I assume you mean a GUI program for interactive exploration and manipulation, rather than a library? This was posted on HN a few months ago and came to mind: https://github.com/facontidavide/PlotJ

The variable explorer comes from Matlab I think. It is handy to quickly and interactively check out what is going on in a matrix or ndarray, especially with the color coding.
