Sorta :) The biggest slowdowns are the generation of the image and the Twitter request. When an image is (successfully) generated, it's written to a file. The next time you query that user, it'll return that file unless it's been longer tha

Woke up on Friday morning (read: lunchtime) after a to-4am code-a-thon with a startup project I'm working on, refreshed and ready to take a well-deservered early weekend of rest and relaxation. :) Right. Needless to say, the first thought I

I think it's clear that Microsoft want to add these kinds of features to Outlook. I wonder now if they'll attempt to build their own as a direct competitor, or shop around for another business to aquire?

I've dealt with a variety of Rails apps on different scales and this is a recurring problem. I think Analytics is good for the business-types who want to use stats in their reports, but even though there's some nice features for developers,

Well, put it like this. If they're looking at your source code it means they're already in your production server, and they can do pretty much whatever the hell they want anyway :)

I like the fact that he stays optimistic and talks about the opportunities we have to make a difference, rather than complain about all the problems we have.

Agreed, I've often wondered about the division of labour at MS HQ. Someone told me today that there is a dedicated team of around 50 people just devoted to managing the "Start" button. A software idea can be built many ways and usually more

The general feeling I get from developers for OS X is that on the whole, Apple supports them well in their endeavours and that Apple gives great respect for people who develop on their platform. That being said, the lack of an SDK from laun

1) Personally, I don't, nor do I count either it or "Semantic web" as tangible, exact things. I just meant to point out that you can use "next version" to anecdotally refer to a shift in trend, which was how it was used in this case. 2) Tha

To me, semantic markup is about making reusable patterns of information that relate to the content. Can I harness that to my advantage in CSS? Of course. It's really no different than saying "I'm going to make every sidebar I ever make have

1) Well, that depends what you want to call "next version". If you called "Web 2.0" next version, then you can call the Semantic Web next version. 2) He was obviously talking about the direction of the technology, not implying that "everyth

I think all of you have missed an important point. Sure, purists like me use microformats all the time, and you're right when you say it's going to take more than that. You're missing the advantage for the business people. It isn't just g
