How is that related? we're talking of continuously sending proprietary code and related IP to a third party, seems a pretty valid concern to me. I, for one, work every day with plenty of proprietary vendor code under very restrictive N

Good luck enforcing that if there's a controversy. You never check personal email on company devices? Participate in mailing lists? Bug trackers for personal projects? Business hours is an obsolete concept in modern world, unless you w

Not sure about balena, most Linux based embedded projects I worked on were based on Yocto and all the source is available either through OpenEmbedded or some vendor consortium (e.g. Linaro). You only need to provide sources for the copyleft

always thought the problem was not multi-threading per se but the whole rendering code that's single threaded with tons of global state that's difficult to decouple without breaking the ecosystem

If the only antiquated defaults are the ones you listed we're not in a bad shape at all... Curious about light/dark mode, what does it do more than loading a theme? something like circadian.el? maybe it's because I hide menu-

Agree with OP, wikipedia is also wrong. A backdoor is something intentional. That definition fits any exploitable bug.

Bad defaults for who? Emacs userbase is quite heterogeneous, not everyone is a swdev, not everyone is young. All it takes to have great defaults is maybe ten instructions in init.el.

I honestly believe emacs UX to be fairly superior. I watch my colleagues struggle to find open files among tens of open tabs in vs code every day. Or endlessly navigating on the filesystem tree with the side bar before finding what they nee

Working with embedded I had mixed success with bear. Old environments that cannot run the latest version, LD preload messing with vendor toolchains. These days I found my peace just writing my own python scripts to parse verbose build logs.

About the cowboy comment, that's what version control is for. Just modify in place and then stage hunk by hunk with magit or git add -p.

What do you use these for? for indoor home use I cannot see the point. We have plenty of biochemical sensors in our body telling you when it's time to ventilate the room... I mean, I can understand CO, maybe Radon, but CO2 really seems

VMM is one of the few things I really miss while working in embedded. I would happily trade off memory allocation errors from fragmented heap with some unpredictable malloc delay (which could be maybe mitigated with some timeout?).
