Not sure if comparison to Texas is appropriate. Gun laws and property protection laws are very different there and act is a big deterrent for such crimes.

Most of these mass daytime raids are done by people from the East Bay. Fixing inequality just in SF won’t address that.

Self cleaning? That would be $10M. This is just your basic restroom with a broken Dyson Airblade hand dryer for $900.

Apparently CA governor Newsom threatened to pull money from SF because of how much unwanted attention the $1.7M restroom attracted. It sounds absurd, but an expensive public restroom in SF could compromise his White House aspirations.

I don't get any spam texts but saw an uptick about a month ago in fake emails from a range of retailers. Always an order confirmation for some expensive gadget with a message prompting me to call a fake number if I have any questions.

Another way to become friends is to experience something extraordinary together. In fact, for me this is way more effective than spending several hours a day with a colleague in the same room. Traveling brings people closer (that could be a

> systems built upon illusions are less stable than systems built upon truths I strongly disagree with that. The most stable societies historically have been built around a religious center, which is by definition not an objective ration

I think the world is now learning that the biggest problem with natural gas is its non-universal availability. This introduces very dangerous dependencies and exacerbates geopolitical corruption.

The way this is presented in the article could be dangerous. ECT with its potentially life-altering horrendous side effects is not an alternative to Ketamine with almost non existent negative long term side effects. Both treatments are reco

I am also confused by this comparison. Yes, Ketamine might cause dissociation… but that’s not a side effect, that’s a catalyst for the actual expected psychological effect. It’s like saying that a side effect of drinking alcohol is feeling

v2 doesn't have native Apple Silicon compatibility yet. Rumors are we will need to wait for the v3 release. In terms of the dev resources: 1. Here is a basic official tutorial: https://vcvrack.com/manual/PluginDeve

This is cool, but I think we are talking about different things. From reading the description of this project it looks like you can't actually _edit_ the individual modules. They still require compilation since it's C++. You can c

The advantage of this PureData plugin and Max4Live over VCVRack is that you can edit the patch on the fly right in the DAW (in addition to the fact that visual programming is way more accessible than a compiled language).

This plugin could potentially be a big deal. PureData has been around for decades but fell behind Max and/or MaxMSP mostly (IMO) due to usability limitations. If more people will be able to incorporate PureData organically into their w

Thank you - your explanation and that photo of the Sun with the Calcium K filter are very helpful. With so many colorized photos of space objects and so many artist impressions, I wasn’t sure whether space is just a black void to the human

Thank you. If I was in a spaceship at a much closer distance to the object than I am right now, would I be able to see the dust and the shape similar to what we see on the photos? Or is this all invisible to the human eye?

Looks incredible, thanks for sharing! Hope they can remove stars from Webb’s Pillars of Creation at some point.

I would like to see Webb’s photo without so much lens flare on individual stars (not sure if that’s the right term). Just kind of toned down stars but the same level of detail.

Is it possible to visualize how a human eye would see Pillars of Creation in real time? This always confused me with Hubble’s colorized photos.

I have a very different experience. In all tech companies I worked at (Bay Area) there were very many Indian immigrants, most of whom were religious. In fact, I have never met an atheist from India. We would frequently discuss religion, phi

Do you mean the risk is that Russia will invade Finland and NATO will have to get involved? This is short term thinking. What if Finland does not join NATO and Russia invades? What if Russia succeeds? In the next decade it will invade Swede
