No direct insight but I do look forward to reading a blog post or two in a few years detailing the internal politics and reasoning behind this push. Hopefully I find it on Reddit, most likely I'll see it on HN.

It's a bit different though with the moderation and lack of revenue focus.

I keep thinking that can't happen, right now it seems to be because there's not a good competitor. That's a scenario we've seen play out enough in the past, I'm personally waiting for something and have been on redd

Your point about the content is true and always tips the hand to Reddit's other issue. The content moves so quick, and the user base switches so much, many subs wind up with the same post/style of posts over and over. The search h

Your 40s come much earlier than you realize. I'm not full FIRE and haven't always pursued the highest income but am at a point where previous decisions and frugality are paying off. The future is unknown. The single best thing I d

I find Casablanca, Tombstone, and The Princess Bride to be the most quotable movies I've ever seen. We had the same experience with Casablanca, some of the shots/scenes don't always pan out and the gun fights are a little hok

It can be, though most forums comment systems could use HN/Reddit like threading. Paging and paging and having to have the reply blocks can be terrible, especially in long ones where they splinter into different conversations.

Yep, you need to do your own aggregations, now a place to hold all my forum links and note/save them (similar to bookmarks but way more robust) would be pretty nice. I've been forcing myself off Reddit and to search out specific f

For people I've discussed with, the surprising part is that they can do anything with it. You and I know that (currently) if someone has the data, they'll scrape/manipulate it at will. I believe, a reasonable person, would ex

You seem neat and open, personally, I wouldn't put a future price here unless you expect to really hit it. I've already got that in my head. :)

No source but I believe that's a big issue. If you don't have money, you can't buy at scale (or store/transport it). Though here it isn't that much (relatively) like say buying bulk beef vs store bought.

It's opt-out, I normally leave it checked, you get the option clearly when purchasing music/items. The artist can then send updates/you get follow notices, the volume is pretty low at the moment for me at least.
