It occurs to me (but I can no longer edit) that I wrote the above comment while only thinking about children after puberty . The Epstein connection of the larger story primed me into that frame, and the comment would have looked differentl

I happen to suspect that RMS is wrong on the pedophilia point, but if all you can say about it is that you find it disgusting , alarm bells should be going off in your head that there may be something here which You Can't Say (in the

I'm pretty sure even something like that doesn't give you carte blanche for, say, murdering people. So there's a line to be drawn, and reasonable people can disagree on where exactly to draw it.

I'm sure that's part of it. Another hypothesis I like is that the US was populated to a significant extent by people who, when faced with problems at home, didn't stay and fight to fix them but instead preferred to leave. In

These may all be fine arguments as to why a high-level(!) software developer might not want to join a union. None of what you wrote applies to assembly line workers. And arguably, it doesn't apply to junior software devs either.

The thing is, the trolley problem presents a very theoretical dichotomy. In real life, such dichotomies are usually false. At the very least, the underlying facts are usually less clear. Therefore, "do nothing" is a very good he

This is very much a cultural thing. Over here, you can easily get bottled water in glass bottles. The delivery services will pick up your tray with empty bottles to be reused. That's reuse after cleaning, not recycling!

MV=PQ is popular in some circles, but it doesn't describe casual links. You can't reason about how those quantities behave from the equation, which is a mere accounting tautology. Both recently and in QE post-global financial cris

Those questions are probably not intentionally designed to eliminate neurodiversity, but I agree that that's a side effect. The set of categories that diversity advocates typically care about is itself not diverse.
