At some point all this comes down to ethics and choice: who do you want to be. There no level of technical education that can fix that. You need either live examples and/or possibly a background in philosophy. That said philosophy do

Then you don't have to. tmux is cool, but if you don't _continue working from where you left_ you're fine re-opening 2-3 terminals, or use workspaces for that. I like tmux because I can launch a tmux session inside a project

You want experience engineers to take a risk on your startup, you pay above market salaries and/or give stock options. There is no magic bullet.

Is it true that the collected data features patient's race and religion? Any clue on why so much pressure was needed to release an otherwise innocuous contract[1]? This reading doesn't inspire much confidence[2] to be honest. [1]:

I don't think they do. Not in small-to-medium size tech companies. Usually, one way or another it is the engineering department running the show. I am not sure about large orgs/behemoths.

It is a nice problem to have in 2020. The only advise that I have to give is: money are means to an end, not an end in itself. The urge for adventure is a valid reason for change , making more money without purpose is not.

I would be interested to know why you choose "Ulysses" and not "Odysseus"? ps. I followed a conversation about James Joyce novel which was hinted that there is a difference between the two names and Joyce didn't pic

Following the 2017 "Power and Politics" lectures at Yale[1] on Youtube (lecture 5) I came across this graph[2] showcasing the relationship between inequality and union membership. I know that correlation does not imply causation b

If we're going to base our educational system in shaming and pushing "knowledge" down the throat of uninterested group of ppl, then we might want to start asking "why are these ppl uninterested?" and "how we ca

My advice is, go directly to the source and read the papers of the services you are using (dynamo, s3, etc.). IMO doesn't make sense to become an "AWS expert". I would take an engineer that can compare SQS to Kafka (self-mana

A good question would be what can be done to fix healthcare in the US ? My understanding is that most voters don't support universal healthcare. IIRC even Obamacare was labeled as controversial. Current model costs way more, the mo

Let's hope a that a Euro collapse won't lead into the 3rd WW in 3-5 years. People have _very_ short memory and are very eager to point fingers at each other.

Misleading title for obvious reasons. Would be wise to modify it. Me and most likely others, believe this is related to the author of bitcoin. It's not.

I don’t have anything to do with robotics and this was my first thought: fear. I am afraid these will be deployed as war machines to kill people instead of being deployed to save people. I wish to be wrong.

Austria, Greece and another EU country have already adopted the same software. I believe there are some exceptions to GDPR when governments are involved.

Handling edge cases through bash is error prone, hard to read and hard to maintain (e.g. shell versions, third party tools, etc). If you think that python and bash are equally equipped, think again.
