My first job was at the family company. My first IT-related job though began like this: I saw a "who is hiring" post, sent an email and what do you know... 15 days later I got reply! The rest is "history" :-P

Some aspects have indeed been commodified. But what about the bigger picture? How simple is it to run a business, a website, organise a travel around or pay a bill nowadays, compared to 1994 or 2004? At times, I can't help but feel t

Seriously? The Louvre is literally made of Greek (two of the 3 most visited art pieces are Greek), Italian and Egyptian art. That’s it. There is very little French artistry. The French masters came a bit later and have their own museum whic

We did. Went from DD to NR because their new pricing model saved lots of $$$. Both are _very_ expensive but DD is really, really something.

DD is 20-50% more expensive. DD actually requires a kidney every six months. Not saying storing and processing data is cheap but DD is the _most_ expensive on the block and _all_ of them look expensive (Elastic, Grafana, Honeycomb, etc.). A

Same here. Whisper is really good at transcribing Greek but no diarization support, which makes it less than ideal for most use cases.

The definitive reference has been the pickAxe book[^1] AFAIK. The ruby 3.x version, which is one who you should be interested in, is not out yet but available for pre-order. Other than that, here are many great books about ruby and online r

1. I'm using FreeBSD-13 running on RPi2 (armv7) as DNS server to the SOHO network. I'm using dnscrypt. I'm serving 1-5 rps. From a stress-test the system can serve up to 43 DNS rps without problems. 2. Small overall footprint

That didn’t come out well - by VMs I mean EKS or Swarm nodes not VMs in term of “pet” not “cattle” :-) The number of nodes was used to run a monolith. Same deployments and all, wasn’t as complicated as it might sound (terraform to manage in

I've worked with quite a few small teams in the past, part time. Never had a fleet as small as 2 VMs, more like 20-120. That's a good summary. Only thing missing that comes up always is the CI/CD workflow. I've found bit

I have to ask, do you trust Hetzner? As many mitigations you can take, they control the underlying infrastructure it's a matter of how far they'll go. Not saying any other provider is better, but this one was caught red-handed. Ge
