Another example is their mastery of acoustics. I remember visiting ruins of Roman amphitheaters when I younger, and getting surprised at how they had managed to design them so that the audience would clearly hear what was happening on stage

If you use a service that handles your private keys and the service gets compromised, then your funds are gone, permanently. This is a very different risk proposition compared to trusting a bank. If the bank gets compromised, it's the

I recently came across this talk from Scott Wlaschin titled "Domain Modeling Made Functional". I found it a great practical introduction to DDD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLFl95c-IiU

I hope you realize that restaurants and other small businesses provide tax revenue to the city, while parked cars usually don't (in most places).

I hope you can realise that the issue pointed out here is that the surburban development pattern essentially forces you to take your car to do something as basic as grocery shopping or going to the park. If your neighborhood was walkable an

It's interesting how the instructions say that an agent can be installed on the phone even _before_ attempting to brute force the password. How can an application be installed if the phone is locked?

Seems challenging because we’d need to first agree on the definition of “original”, “done” and “good”. Also, the original iPod had less space than a Nomad. Lame.

Yes I think he's getting some of terminology wrong. Saying that "Linux [is] based on Unix" is not really accurate either. But ultimately this is just nitpicking. It's great that he's sharing what he learned.

What a very interesting topic. I found a more recent paper [1] that concludes it is beneficial to soak the beans and then discard the soaking water prior to cooking. I prepare dry beans regularly and almost never discard the soaking water.

While the delivery times are not great yet because a lot of items come from abroad, their inventory is now pretty extensive. In these COVID times, I've been buying quite a bit of bicycle gear & parts and in many cases I could find

Yes but that's part of the equilibrium I suppose. Places where current wages are low are going to see wage increases (because of higher demand / lower supply), which in turn will lead to an increase in costs of living. Places wher

At the same time, there's never been so much open-source software and hacker-friendly hardware available. It's true that the average computing device is turning into an appliance (is it a bad thing?), but it also appears the optio

I found this paper from the Bank of England very enlightening when it comes to the actual mechanisms of money creation and their limits. The paper is short and concise enough and the diagrams are very helpful to the uninitiated. Money Creat

I don't know about that. I find relentless cynicism/negativity to be much more difficult to ignore than positive comments. I tend to think this is how we are wired as humans.

It's because it's a PowerShell syntax. What the parent meant was "here's how to write it in PowerShell so that it still has a 'unix' feel to it (ie: composing commands with pipes and option switches)".
