I have a feeling the parent poster realized they were only mentioning the word, but chose not to write it anyway. For a lot of people, it is a very uncomfortable word after all.

That's just not what I took away from the article. Out of sincere curiosity I would happily re-read it if you provided some quotes from the article that led to your interpretation. Maybe I can try to see it from your perspective if you

I mean sure, although the time article uses the word "conspiracy" in a sensationalist sort of way. It's about Trump's efforts to weave a false narrative and the bi-partisan "conspiracy" to ensure the election w

Well yeah, the difference is that conspiracy theories purport that a group of people are secretly conspiring in order to fool the public into believing a false narrative. I disagree with some views that fit that description and I disagree w

It's nice to see a story about reconciliation. For a while now I've been slightly frustrated with family members for having what I perceive as backwards views. But arguing over whether or not a certain conspiracy theory is true ge

I think that's exactly the point. In this context, planned obsolescence of plastics is the goal, because currently they last much longer than needed. I'm having trouble seeing how this might lead to planned obsolescence of non-pla

Social pressure to consume any substance is not cool. But if it's a mutual desire, and in the right context, alcohol (or coffee I guess) can be a nice catalyst for bonding with coworkers and clients. It should by no means be a requirem

Yeah, the paranoia can be very real. When I do smoke, I mostly like to do it alone where I know I won't have to interact with anyone and can completely control my environment. I think weed affects people in wildly different ways. I k

Agreed. My ability to socially interact and be productive is pretty heavily affected when smoking, much more so than when drinking (heck, the right amount of booze might even improve those qualities a bit). Like you said, everyone is differ

Agreed. Part of gaining the trust of another person is being honest about uncertainty. He subtly emphasized that authority figures are your best bet for advice, but they still don't know everything. It's a nice gentle introduction

What you're saying is true, and it can be helpful to put things into logical terms like that. But it's a messed up thing when you're a kid. You're thrust into the world, and some people around you make everything alright

Not to get too gushy, but as I grow older I often find myself feeling more like a child again--in that the world is not a controlled place, and none of us know why we're here, and we are all kind of trying our best to make a nice time

I can attest that the film, despite its flaws, had me on the verge of tears much of the time. Imagining someone whose sole goal is to encourage positive development hits me hard, for some reason. He surely had his demons like any human, but

I kind of saw this as just a collection of neat programming puzzles and an accompanying paper about automatic solvers. Doesn't seem like they are trying to affect the language itself in this case.

Haha yes, "a modern zombocom" may have been a bit click-baity upon reflection. I mostly thought it would be funny to make those creepy pitch-shifted voices say something as silly as "tickle tockle" over and over :-)

I think the debate here was merely on misinformation, so to be honest I'd say market share doesn't necessarily apply here. You might rightfully say that weaving a biased narrative out of truths could also be labeled misinformation

I think this approach is a bit backwards. The world needs more competence , and people should be encouraged to admit their gaps in knowledge and learn from others.

I really did appreciate the post, but I also felt weird about that language. Not offended or anything, but it stood out. Not to detract from the nice explanation in that post, but I do think "smart" can be a bit of annoying term.
