Ah memories! I consider myself very fortunate to have been one of Damian's students. The container box store mnemonic took me way back. He's not overstating the diversity thing either. In those days the CS program was C, Lisp, Prolog, C++,

I just spent a better part of an hour typing out a response only to lose it. To summarize: Search is key. CL are a non-player in our market, but the CL equivalent cannot compete with us in automotive. Why? High quality reference data, the k

They took a small, useful and elegant language, in part crippled by horrible, horrible, ugliness (e.g. for inner functions this points to the global object), and in preference to just fixing it, Javafied it. This is not to say that ES4 sh

It's astonishing how many people you meet that have worked with Pick, and perhaps less so the percentage of those who love it. I know a whole stack of people using UniVerse and UniData. As for me, I worked with AP on SVR4 (NCR)and D3 on Uni

He's merely critiquing the aesthetics. The whole 'unreadable' jazz is histrionics. Now for a pukka critique of Jakob's site take a look at DESIGN EYE for the Usability Guy http://www.designbyfire.com/000094.html

Nokia addressed most of the N95 issues you describe with the N95-3, also called the N95 8Gb. 'Tethering' (bluetooth) is trivial so long as you know the APN. Works great on the train for me. Browser is webkit based and works very nicely, exc

So then wouldn't his argument be true by definition? He's not simply saying strategy takes longer than tactics, but that tactics accelerated by virtue of being online do not infer strategy accelerated likewise.

His point seems to be that on the web tactics work (or don't) really quickly but it's a trap to assume the same of strategy.

The only problem is that people pay less attention because you don't sound as impressive... But as the brothers Heath show us in "Made to Stick", nobody will recall what you actually said.

Qantas has been doing more that its share of trial and error of late - but the 60+ year lucky streak still holds. I wonder if outsourcing maintenance to Asia might not be one of Dixon's smarter schemes.

Yet, if you follow the responses both positive and negative, also not so great. Let's imagine I'm to python hacking as Giles is to restaurant criticism. I punch out such a cracking piece of code that Guido himself wept on his first reading.
