Thanks, I've found the Standard Ebooks (both kepubs and epubs) quite good and would recommend them if you're looking for something in the public domain. The downside is that their kepubs did not play well with Calibre. By default

Calibre is great once you get the hang of the interface. The one thing I haven't yet figured out is how to stop it from butchering Kobo (kepub) ebooks downloaded from Standard Ebooks: "Important: Don’t use Calibre to transfer the

I stand corrected. I'd attribute my false confidence to the fact that even the previous version (macOS 10.4 Mojave) is still supported. But now that I think about it that'll likely change at the Apple WWDC in June. Still, decently

In talking with fellow parents of young children the biggest variable seems to be whether there is a stay-at-home parent, live-in relative, or nanny who can help with the recurring labor required to run a household like cleaning, cooking, s

Or in my case, a 2012 MacBook Air. I hope they'll support Catalina for another three or four years or at which point it's more than a decade old and can finally mature into a laptop's final stage of life as a Linux machine.

Interesting, I hadn't know that about Teslas. On a Prius you can mount a ~$50 12V solar trickle charger on your dashboard, possibly with some rewiring [1] to keep one of your 12v sockets live, and it's even easier on older trucks.

I agree that in many cases an extra dollar of battery capacity provides more utility than an extra dollar of solar charging. But I did have one of those niche applications a while ago: I used to travel for work and often left my car parked

I agree with you that allowing each organization to make their own seasonal shifts requires less coordination and is simpler in many ways. Just to be clear, I was responding to the parent poster who suggested we "just legislate that th

I would actually like a solar roof for just this reason: when I have no choice but to park in the sun, it would be convenient if it could produce enough energy to maintain a reasonable temperature without impacting the remaining range.

That seems like it solves the problem in the reverse direction. I want an app that allows me to shift my schedule to the sun, not sync an artificial sun to my schedule.

Coordinating a mass schedule change at a specific point in time is just a different method of implementing daylight-savings time. Between the two, changing wall clocks seems like the simpler of the two options, but either is fine.

Good point. It's too bad that this would be hard to use for anything besides sunrise and sunset, e.g. "breakfast served daily from sunrise+1h to sunrise+6h".

I'm not sure any of the vegans I know would give up veganism in order to minimize their scars any more than the meat-eaters I know would give up meat based on studies that show it can be mildly unhealthy.
