I agree with this. We've used a couple of contractors outside of california but in the US. To avoid the majority of issues raised here, we got a potential devs to complete a coding task on metered time. While there was a higher initial cost

I've been a beta tester for a few months and I like it a lot. Definitely a long way to go but it's at the intersection of a text file (for ease of use) and a full fledged project mgmt system, which certainly helped as we added new people to

Agreed. Working on multiple machines and files not friendly to g docs, makes dropbox indispensable. When I upgraded to Lion and iOS5, I didn't even think about using iCloud. iTunes integration w/ iCloud may change that but I doubt it.

No, users can send tweets about their score but a lot of businesses use our api to track and organize their incoming requests from social media.

Any idea what the throttling rate is on this api?

Agreed, however I've run in to compatibility issues with 3 a few times and so resolved to stick w/ 2, deal with the text parsing issues myself, keep the libraries I like and leave the ops team alone.

Here at Klout, we're seeing a lot of companies respond to mentioners based on their Klout score.

I agree, I love Python but I've spent untold hours dealing with its unicode issues.

I hope this gives rise to a web based platform for open office. I don't see it having a bright future as desktop only.

I understand why rails continues its ascent but the LAMP framework is still very popular - you can get to hello world on your home computer or free hosting account extremely quickly, that's pretty powerful when your're starting out. Service

While I agree this is a big deal, imo it's the tags and graph that make it a daily habit.

I'd love to see one of these python MR approaches get some traction, until then I expect most companies will be following Facebook's approach of putting data into HDFS/Hive and then using Python, or whatever, to parse the output of HiveQL.

This is the next logical step. Most people are already performing social and stream worthy actions all over google properties, it makes sense for them to provide users with a public forum for their display. Although I'm still not sure googl

Maybe I'm missing something but given you write the app in HTML/JS it must be difficult to unit test your wrappers for the phonegap functions, as I assume you can't simply pull up your dev site from the phone's browser. I'm thinking particu

Gotta wonder what the defn of 'knowledge' is here - just mentions of the keyword? Does that indicate knowledge?

Taking the initial steps to algorithmically quantify this kind of thing is what's important, imo. If you could attach this as a widget to documents like ToS, it could significantly impact their readability. I like it.

Would be interesting to see this compared to the number of hours you've put in over the course of the development, so you have an increasing per hour rate.

This kind of stuff happens pretty frequently to momentum stocks when they have what is perceived as bad news. Baidu is another stock with similar volatility sometimes caused by news.

I'm inclined to agree here. I left the UK primarily because I felt the appetite for risk, and thus the potential for innovation, was significantly lower in the UK than SV. It's working out so far.

I don't see how the api key requirement will push devs away. If you have a simple ways to demo the api, like Facebook, Foursquare and YouTube all do, then it's easy to see the output you'll get. Assuming that happens, a key for tracking and
