The latest software has several deficiencies, but this isn't one of them. Copy, then hold down the Option key while pasting, by keyboard or menu. In the Edit menu, "Paste Item" will change to "Move Item Here". Even

Verizon is still giving out misinformation on this. A support representative confirmed to me in writing today that "As of February 1, 2015, Verizon Wireless will not send an identifier to third parties." However, it's still b

Excellent talk, even if you've seen it before. Note that the slide viewer scrolls horizontally across the first few slides, but you need to use the keyboard (spacebar) to advance further.

I generally agree, but I'd amend that to "there are few good reasons". When an API is present but buggy, sometimes there's no good way around a version check. It can still be regarded as a last resort.

Thinking about it as "don't concatenate different data types" leads to even more correct software. Concepts like "trust" and "sanitization" are too often vague and misleading. It might be perfectly valid f

Yes, there was a very brief mention of WebGL as a Safari feature during the keynote. Edit: On second thought, don't take that as proof. I was thinking of the Mac OS X portion, and I don't recall them calling it out specifically fo

YouTube appears to require Flash when playing a video with ads from the YouTube site. Embeds of the same video show the HTML5 version ad-free. Here's a tip I've found useful: if you run into the "Install Flash" message,

Swift is designed to make many common C and Objective-C errors less likely, but at least one class of bugs could be ascendant: off-by-one errors in ranges. Swift's ".." and "..." range operators are reversed compa

While Microsoft has a large footprint in healthcare IT (and so do mainframes), SaaS is huge and becoming even more important, and there the server OS doesn't matter much to the customer. That said, what Apple announced was patient data

I can see a reason: it's gunning for the mindshare of the kind of developers who like the features in Python. But you're right that performing faster than Objective-C tells you what you need to know, and showing the Python compari

It turns out that this is a different language. Apple overloaded the name "Swift".

You could clarify "bug fixes are free" by saying: 1. You offer support (problem analysis) for $X per hour. 2. If analysis reveals a bug in your software, you will fully refund the support cost and offer the fix for free.

I think the point was that it's inherently less safe to allow arbitrary markup and then attempt to sanitize it, than to make a full parser that's incapable of generating unsafe HTML at any stage, all other things being equal. The

If you need to select text, something still isn't working properly. You should be able to drag two fingers down from the top of the screen, and it will read and turn pages for you until the end of the book.
