Did you use gcc or clang or...? When I ran this locally I get: 0x7ffeee2a4808 0x7ffeee2a4810 0 0x7ffeee2a4808 0x7ffeee2a4810 0 With -O0 I get 1/1 instead of 0/0 so this appears to be a compiler optimization.

This wouldn't be the first time Apple's had a perf/polish focused release. For example Snow Leopard had almost no major features and was mainly perf and polish over Leopard.

I also think most companies usually invest their additional cash into things that they think will grow faster than their debt interest. Long term it makes more sense to grow a part of their company that will have a larger return investment

I'm an iOS developer and I use it for writing iOS apps, testing, and managing my test environments. I have the luxury of assuming a macOS host though. I think the reason you'd pick it for a server language is because the strengths

One spec is about Async/Await and the other is a high level design approach for the language (which does include a reference to the async/await proposal, its under the section titled `Part 1: Async/await`).

I was mostly just pointing out that perl6 might not be as slow as the comment you linked suggests. There seems to be something about using `perl6 -pe` that caused it to be slower than you’d expected. However, using a different approach its

So, a fairly simple change to this will bring down the time to a few ms (86 ms on my computer) time yes | head -n1000000 | perl6 -e 'for $*IN.readchars { .subst("y", "n").print }’ Its slightly more complicate

So, doing another simple change to my code brought the runtime down to a few ms. Doing: time yes | head -n1000000 | perl6 --profile -e 'for $*IN.readchars { .subst("y", "n").print }’ > /dev/null

If you use master instead of the current release that example goes from about two mins to just under one minute for my machine. Also, if you use .subst(‘y’, ’n’) instead of a regex it runs in under 9 seconds locally. Thats still much slower
