Your comment made me realise it would probably be fairly easy to program a ChatGPT-like model to generate its own ‘what-ifs’ for any given assertion. Ie. The birth certificate is an ‘exception’, a safety measure for a model like this in ope

I think a catch-all top level exception is totally fine and not ugly at all! That’s why my Python APIs never fatally crash, they just log an exception and move onto the next request.

Because the property of being wrong is not binary. It might be partly wrong but correct enough for your current situation.

Indeed, I expect the ONLY application where this combination of requirements makes sense is.. a global currency.

This is totally true, I worked at Amazon when it first launched Kindle. There were multiple software engineers 100% dedicated to ‘making the Kindle product page work’ at this time.

But even taking those %s at face value: it's 40% of a much larger amount of money (a whole CD versus some streams).

Even if you want to ‘fire and forget’, it’s still essential to keep a reference to the task, otherwise it can be garbage collected mid-execution: https://docs.python.org/3/library/asyncio-task.html#asyncio....

It shouldn’t be a pain to maintain OpenAPI files. The same code you write to validate your request/response should automatically generate the OpenAPI see my comment here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33221395

This is exactly how FastAPI/Pydantic in the Python ecosystem works (and also in Django-ninja for Django). You compose types representing your request and response shape. Those types validate the API request and it’s response, and also

You can generate valid alternative Ethereum PoS histories in private without getting slashed: just don’t propose them to network? This is unlike PoW, where even generating the history is expensive. This leaves a problem: how should new node

The most "popular" chain in PoW is the one that has the most work. How should someone determine the most "popular" chain in PoS based on the chain history alone? Is it the one with the most 'staked'? The proble

You know which PoW chain is the one true chain because it is the one with the most work. What is the equivalent mechanism in PoS?

And in this last scenario, how does someone joining the network know which of the now forked chains is the ‘one true chain’?

I often think about this. We have 100s of services running on 1000s of servers and 10,000s of containers but I wonder how much of that is ‘waste’ in the sense that we are running 10,000x Operating Systems, 100s of load balancers, database

100% agree, it is also impossible to quantify so can never really be a useful factor in decision making. And Python is not a business with customers. It’s an open source volunteer project.

But if you submit your trade ‘first’ you miss out on any information that arrives afterwards. Maybe it cancels out the advantage of being ‘first’? I am admittedly well outside my area of expertise.

That was my initial thought as well: this would just become an arms race to submit your trade last? But maybe if the trades were priority queued it would negate that.

> Resources of building clean energy capacity have an opportunity cost I don’t understand this point, are you saying a project that stimulates additional clean energy capacity is a net negative somehow? Why?
