Replying so you don't feel left out -- I hadn't because I don't feel there's much left to add. I agree with you. There is more than one piece to the puzzle. We seem to agree that housing is one of the bigger pieces, thou

If "anything can be broken down to a zero sum game" just means "time is finite, react accordingly" that's all well and good. Kind of banal, though. I was hoping for something more theoretical...

I've read your comment twice and don't understand the point you're trying to make. Care to try again?

Giving and receiving love is not zero-sum. Cultivating mutual trust is not zero-sum.

I've advanced the position that 1) we should agree to tackle the root cause of the problem primarily but not exclusively and 2) we should identify and agree on what the root cause is. I'm not clear if you agree with the above. I&#

I didn't deny that homelessness is a problem, please re-read my comment. Perhaps I've been "screaming the tune" for a decade but in that time the cost of housing has gone up dramatically. In 2009 I rented a 2-br apartmen

First, I reject the notion that there are "massive, growing hordes of drug addicted zombies in west coast cities." Having lived in Seattle for over a decade, now living in Olympia, and having visited San Franscisco, Portland, and

Maybe there's a guerrilla component to it, but it's been all over the NYT recently... Definitely a full press marketing campaign. And we're falling for it with multiple posts about the films hitting the front page recently.

You're spot on. I recently had a similar experience discussing a topic with ChatGPT. It's the dialectic process on tap.

Ultimately it's an article of faith. A leap. If it helps, here's a metaphor: you're in a vessel in the middle of a vast, swift river. You have a paddle. Do you have control? Yes. Can you control the outcome? No. More pithily,

Binary thinking limits. Control is an illusion or at best minimal. You are not your emotions. There are seasons in life. Let the river carry you to the ocean. It's up to you how that process feels.

People saying that it's "easy to make games" surprise me. Are you actually trying to make something real, or is this just speculation? If you're on the sidelines or a dilettante, why speak? You're just adding noise.

Kind of blows my mind that my children will think I'm nuts when I tell them I used to get on a plane without being scanned and tagged. Or that someone use to ring up and bag my groceries. Progress!

Commoditize your complement -- and if it's your competitor's essential thing, all the better. PS I wish I could get the NYT to write marketing pieces for my stuff!

That may describe your patterns but it doesn't match my lived experience with a game on Steam... I added a demo and saw sales decline. I removed the demo and saw sales increase. I've heard similar stories from others.

You and wildrhythms are asking, "How is a demo different than refunding?" 1. A demo is a promotional product. It has to have emotional beats that culminate in strong desire for more and a call to action to "Buy now!" The

As someone who makes games this strikes me as nuts. I can easily see players enjoying their 90-minutes and leaving satisfied, why pay for more? We know from achievements and other data very few players reach a game's ending. I wager th

Any number of ways. What's the issue here? This "problem" is commonplace. Even my dogs experience it, and they don't need metaphysics to resolve the tension! If you want an abstract rule to follow that always works and i

Personally, I don't see the issue. Perhaps you can help me understand? If two people / groups have different perspectives they can live and let live. If one person / group wishes to force it's view on the other then we h
