The GP means to imply that smartphones and tablets are far more compelling to children than books.

Anecdotally, I've seen many parents do this with mixed results. YMMV.

What would you have done at his age? Would you have done your homework promptly or played video games first? Did you ever skip your homework altogether? Be honest.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. If no one is testing the build on platform X, no one should be surprised if it doesn't "just work" on platform X.

When is the Hacker News site redesign coming? Things I'd like to see here: - TLRD; article summary for each post - markdown support - image support - user profile page enhancements: avatars, pretty URLs, more links to user's other

My impression was that building his own URL shortenner was undertaken as a mitigation of the risk of other URL shortenners disappearing.

This underscores the importance of independently reproducing experimental results of others. It's not done often enough.

Lately more companies are using digital hiring packets which employees e-sign, making this strategy essentially moot. You're unlikely to sneak under the radar when each field is required.

He's accusing him of malice or he's accusing him of laziness. Hanlon's razor applies to the former and not the latter. You're splitting hairs.

Hanlon's Razor applies because the GP literally accused the person of malice. Direct quote: > Point is, this is a core thing that should've been tested, and not doing so implies either malice or laziness...

An army of full time employees ain't cheap either. I imagine your ad business would have to be very large to justify the investment, especially if building & supporting an ad platform is not your core business.

Not every java web app needs to be this bloated. It's possible (even practical) to build robust, database driven web apps/web services without spring/hibernate and with far shallower stacktraces.

Why not outsource the complex ad work to a company that specializes in it? Why not use Google's DFP platform for instance?

It seems to me that forks are treated more like RSUs (restricted stock units) than stock options. When a company grants you RSUs, you're immediately responsible for tax on the value of the shares. If you then hold the stock for any per
