lol that’s really cute. Spotify permissions it asks for make sense. It was really confused by all the kid music I play. Why so much Raffi? Their training set must not include people with children. :)

a) "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing" b) "Any landing where you can re-use the equipment again is a great landing" Old aviation sayings. :) Oh well. ;)

The title seems pretty unkind to the project and I almost skipped it. “Bleh bleh yet another hex editor”. But this has some nice features! For example, it can parse the executables, and show structures: Disassembler supporting many differen

I really enjoy when people enjoy poking a bit of fun at themselves: ——— Here is what people have been saying about ctypes.sh: "that's disgusting" "this has got to stop" "you've gone too far with this"

I’ve wondered the same about grapefruit and bitterness as well. I’ve compared relative bitterness of things to a grapefruit. My partner thinks grapefruit is less bitter than beer, or many items I consider barely bitter at all. Yet I find gr

Ravi catches my interest, then frustrates me. The Lua 5.4* compatibility statement. “Well we’re 5.3, we forked 5.3 I don’t agree with a minor 5.4 detail so we’re stuck on 5.3” It’s similar to LuaJIT stuck on 5.1. I don’t think it does the L

Just did a Speedtest, 880mbps down and 780Mbps up at 19:30, so peak. Sonic gigabit in SF. I’d say that’s within margin of error. I see 900s on the early AM. Plus my WiFi can’t go that fast so I’m ok with it.

Shell scripting has it’s place. In general it works fairly well and it’s an important skill to have. I used to have a report who had a similar train of thought, and ended up writing shell scripts in python which was way more fragile, unread

Why wouldn’t we?? Have you seen a cow? :) An enzyme to break down milk seems to be such an easier adaptation compared to a whole series of stomach, which are basically a series of fermenters. Having raised goats the size of their rumens to

Why not just use Lua? :) yes I get it, Lua is yet another language to your stack. But so is MicroPython. We were looking for a higher lever than C language for an embedded Linux system* and one engineer was massively in favor of MicroPython

Damn! I wish I'd known about this in 2018 when I wrote a Lua dissector for Wireshark while trying to diagnose an outage. We had a custom in house server, with a custom protocol and no way to diagnose it. (don't get me started) S

I've got this soft spot in my heart for digikey, they've always shipped so quickly and called on the smallest issue and offered to help. When ever they call I always do that "why is someone from Minnesota calling me?"

Indoor/outdoor temp sensors. Anything that needs a cheap temp sensor. Really handy since they just steal power from the bus (parasitic) so you don't need to run extra wires for power.

This affects temperature sensors/parts bought from un-official distributors like ebay or AliExpress, not digikey, farnel, etc. Perhaps I've been too lucky in my career and practiced EE for work, but who would you ever go to ebay i

We chose to go with Lua on our embedded project ~2 years ago, and chose lua 5.3 with the following rational: 1. Lua embeds well on a small system and gives us a higher level language than C. lua or luajit is ok 2. Lua isn't being used

I think you’re missing how easy it is to do these days. It’s pretty easy to do with NTP synced devices. I’m lucky enough to have a fleet of devices sync with GPS and the PPS signal. It’s pretty amazing to/fun to do latency tests, you g
