As someone else pointed out in a sub-comment, ssh user@host 'command' | pbcopy; seems a lot simpler. No open ports, no firewall config... no setup at all. It doesn't give you the access to the pasteboard in your current session, but Command

Do you have processes that actively write to files in your Dropbox folder on a regular basis? Dropbox averages < 0.5% CPU on my Mac, but your mileage may vary. I do consider even that much somewhat odd considering that I'm a very occasi

Exactly. Here I am thinking Dropbox is awesome because it's both stable and just works . Who knew a product needed to have a steady stream of feature updates until it subsumed the very operating system it sat on top of.

From what I've read that's already happening.

Oh? What about the graph of everyone that you want to connect with and much of the communication between you and your "friends" (which is only boosted by these new features)?

By and large most of those devices don't require you to hand over tons of personal (and potentially sensitive) information just to use them. Edit: My point being that advocating on behalf of mom and dad when it comes to technology shouldn't

So I'll ask the obvious question as a person who has visited, but never lived in, NYC. Why is this a problem? I've never had a problem getting a cab to take me where I want to go in the cities I've lived in nor the ones I've visited. The on

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this problem solved by using a symlink? Creating a symlink with the name Default.png and then dynamically generating the file it points to is basically on par with Apple's built in apps. http://collison.i

The sad thing is that facebook itself is already somewhat of a "Gmail killer." I have a ton of people that will only contact me through facebook. When I ask why they don't use email they usually don't have an answer. The ones that do mumble

I'd say that techcrunch may have just saved a few hundred people their jobs. Doubtful. If they're going to lay people off they'll just stagger the "changes" by a few months.

One could also wonder why only Yahoo's negative press gets voted up on HN.

As these types of epiphanies pop up on the web over time I wish someone would just come out and say it. Apple, as an organization, approaches problems in a way that just about every other company is too chickenshit to try. When Jobs returne

I think you're missing the point. The comparison of the remotes isn't intended to point out the "better design" of the Apple version. The comparison is of the overall approach to user experience. It's obvious that Apple doesn't think people

It doesn't contradict "even putting quality aside, competitors can’t match Apple’s prices" because competing on price means offering something that is essentially the same for a lower price. The iPad isn't comparable to either the Archos 7"

Now, even putting quality aside, competitors can’t match Apple’s prices. The only Archos device that is shipping and comparable to an Apple product (the iPad) is this: http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/02/archos-70-internet-tablet... This

His definition of "match" seems to be device dimensions, performance, and battery life. Juxtaposing the iPad with a smartphone in an attempt to compare the prices doesn't seem right (you linked to an HTC A8181, but mentioned the Galaxy S).

It's difficult to know exactly which point in the article you take issue with. I didn't see anything that indicated Gruber is unaware of the Archos.

What I'm very curious to know is how Google employees feel about what the culture there now is like. There have been a fair number of high profile exits in the last year or so and a while a Facebook IPO is probably reason number one there

It would have been better to just link to the campaign Aaron Swartz has been running for at least a few weeks now. http://demandprogress.org/blacklist/ I've donated a little money and would encourage you to do the same.

Replication is the wrong word for it. Key distribution is what you want. If a given memcache server goes down then the keys it was storing should get reloaded to a different one in your pool by your cold cache loading code.
