I think the only thing that wasn't forked off from the Sun deal was VirtualBox, mainly because Oracle never cared much about it and it's still open source, and partly because the container revolution was already brewing.

I don't think society disagrees with you in general. The crime is still in the news because it was truly gruesome, but nobody is lighting candles and praying for his poor soul.

Local here. For the first murder (the one in Buenos Aires), the victim was initially portrayed by the media as a "crypto entrepreneur", too, and I guess that was copied over and never revisited as media usually does -- but as fact

This is just a creative take on the utterly broken interview process from software companies, that we all are probably too familiar with.

Yup, exactly the point. Corporate garbage not making it into the kernel is solely the outcome of Torvalds-like style of saying "this is garbage and you're an *diot", where it's very rare that any processes or governance

I'm 100% with you on that. Strong free software leadership (e.g. classic Torvalds), despite all its problems, is naturally anti-corporation. Anyone with a real job in a moderately Big Co. can tell you that.

It's a sterile discussion. So far all the AI tools that I've seen aimed at reproducing the output faster, which may be correct, but not at contextually processing the incomplete input which is usually a mess. When you realize

I don't disagree. Java as an object-oriented strongly-typed JVM-based language may be beautiful as theory. But in practice "FactoryFactoryFactory" (*) is commonplace across codebases, frameworks, libraries, etc. Java in the r

My problem with Java is exactly this. I've avoided it my entire professional life, no matter its promises or success stories. I'm not saying Java doesn't work, but makes my daily life as a programmer miserable. But there was

I kindly disagree. Python tooling, documentation and lib maturity is nowadays comparable to Java IMHO. Which one is better suited for your problem is a matter of perception. Javascript (on the backend) is obviously a different story.

Good analysis, bad conclusion. Instead of coming up with 20 years instead of 100 for software copyright expiration, why not "if you EOL it, its copyrights are automatically revoked"? Tell you why: because new Windows is just old W

I'd love a performance comparison against concurrent-ruby on the Readme. That's assuming Polyphony is aiming to replace most or all of it.

Well, I agree if your experience was around codebases that tried to fit JS in the OOP category.

Unfortunately I think the opposite. JS was a great prototype-based language, but very few understood those and tried to fit it into functional or OOP mindsets. When they started talks about adding classes to the spec I knew I had to run awa

I don't. I build backend services now. But to be fair, I still maintain a relatively popular Chrome extension in old-school JS and that's still a pleasure to work with.

I moved away from JavaScript because of the same reason I moved away from PHP. An originally decent idea gone terribly wrong.

Yeah I'm more surprised about the comments than the actual story. Specially with people thinking that the interview process is broken, but somehow the promotion process is pristine and unhackable.
