The replication crisis definitely leaves a lot of room for questioning. However, even if all the studies we have were properly replicated we still wouldn't understand addiction perfectly. We still have a lot to learn, just look at how

Seriously, good package management makes a huge difference. Long term maintainability really benefits from a package manager that you don't spend hours diagnosing obscure dependency errors. I do not miss this aspect of developing in C#

Fair enough, I have had to make sure I don't lose myself as an insight junkie. When it comes to the consequences are you thinking of it damaging our ability to seek out insights for ourselves if they are so easy to read?

That's an interesting way of thinking about it, in some cases there is overlap. Both do transmit dopamine and reinforce neural connections. However this is just one of many types of "addiction", so I think the relationship go

Psychology definitely needs a higher level of rigor in their studies. It is frustrating but you just have to pick apart the methodology more rigorously to be reasonably certain. Understanding how our brains work even at a rudimentary level

At least you learn something from reading these sorts of sites. Heroin doesn't do that...then again I may just be justifying an addiction.

If people fall for the click bait(they do), then they get more views from optimizing for it. It would be more surprising if an optimization algorithm for views didn't favor this.

Soluble corn fiber still needs more study, but then again their previous fiber source (isomalto-oligosaccharides) seems like it was worse given what evidence does exist.

People expect the sources to have some sort of marketing scheme behind them. Examine.com is the exception by having well researched suggestions backed with actual studies and a status of being a reliable third party. I understand their skep

Thanks for being open to feedback, I know some people here are quite critical when it comes to supplementation suggestions and really anything medical. You clearly take the time to think and test this stuff out and improve your post, so I t

If you are looking for ideas to protect yourself from depression http://examine.com is amazing. They back their articles with actual scientific studies on whether or not supplements work. Their articles on omega 3(e.g. fish oil)

When it comes to disproof of course this is the case, as a single person my perception is limited. It also helps to be a bit more specific, because that level of salary is the minority for just the cash component. But once you include bonus

Interesting. When it comes to rates though, my interpretation of your wording is a floor of 288k/yr (at least double what was mentioned in the post right?). From what I have seen you have to do specialty work to command rates that high

It depends if you have enough capital to trade on that algorithm at scale. The more capital you personally have the more potential value you get from keeping it secret.

That benefit wasn't obvious at the time. It still is hard to quantify the future benefits with reasonable certainty.

Testing of past research should be considered first class. It isn't sexy, but it is critical to increasing our confidence in what we know!

I agree if you are designing for a single operating system. The restriction isn't artificial if the software under design is multi-platform, since Windows for example doesn't work with colons in file names.

I assume any files I make should be usable by any major operating system, so to be sure I avoid any special characters in file names.

That is quite the obscure and interesting issue to run into! Who puts colons in their filenames though? I haven't ever seen that used...

Machine learning is setting it up to find the correlations for you these days :p It is annoying when people choose things due to a more exciting name/buzzword rather than actual merit...

Especially given the cost! There are a lot cheaper ways to stimulate the vagus nerve. They could have spent more on implementing proper control groups and still saved money.

Severe anxiety is painful for sure, but doesn't that seem a bit unnecessary? Given there are proven methods for treating anxiety such as medications, meditation, cognitive behavioral therapies, etc without such a high cost.

Perception is interesting, in this case some people perceive technology relativistically. If the technology isn't growing faster than its competition then it is dying. The author is a web developer after all.

The end of code seems like a title created by a sensationalist... I am excited for how these forms of pattern recognition and decision making can allow us to do more with software. There is still plenty of code to be written as we continue
