There's an aspect of fun and tinkering that is gone. You can't usually change those apps or use them in ways not intended by the maker.

I've noticed this exact same thing. And I too just gave up. People have their pet causes and they force the article to match, and normal, non-obsessed people give up. Any controversial topic should never be read on Wikipedia, it will n

Did I, or did I not, have the option to fast, or not to fast? Did I then pick one? How is that not proof of a choice? Who or what else made that choice if not me? If you poke me with a needle, I move, that is not a choice because it's

If you can't do anything with your self awareness it's equivalent to not having it. What's the distinction between knowing I exist, but all my actions are pre-programmed vs not knowing I exist? You're essentially describ

You are simultaneously claiming you can prove an animal made a choice, but I didn't? That's a contradiction. In any case, a mirror test is a test of recognizing self, it does not indicate anything in terms of self awareness. And I

Here's another example: When I look at something I "see" the functionality behind it (for example the pipes in the bathroom), or the chemical reaction, or sometimes even the concept of the atoms that make it up. An interior d

Consciousness is awareness of yourself, and then the ability to look at yourself and decide to make a change. Someone conscious is able to choose how they want to behave and then behave that way. For example I can choose to be kind or mean.

If you have checksum errors reading data from disk, you have much worse issues than ram corruption. Any program you launch will probably be corrupted. Although if you do swap on a server (and you should), the swap needs to be on a raid, oth

LibreOffice can open AppleWorks files from 1984. And if it couldn't, you could run these old programs in a VM, and I expect that to continue essentially forever, so I see no future problem viewings these browser files.

Version control can be very simple. Not everything requires the full power of git. Use ci from RCS, and that's about it. It makes a single file in the same directly as the file, no need to checkout files, or keep track of, well, anyt

You add a random number to the encryption key, and also send that random number (seed) as part of the message. Boiled down to the very essence modern cryptography is: Using a secret seed plus a public seed, generate a long random number (of

It's not about insufficient ram, it's about reserving ram for much more important things: cache. This changes puts the least important data in ram - temp files - while evicting much more important cache data.

Reading it back from a filesystem is much much faster than reading it back from swap.

You wrote your comment like it was a rebuttal of the person above you, but the text supports what they said: A filesystem is faster than swap for this. What was your intent?

File is tmpfs will swap out if your system is under memory pressure. If that happens, reading the file back is DRAMATICALLY slower than if you had just stored the file on disk in the first place. This change is not going to speed things up
