I had actually asked about this very same issue a year ago, but the database was much smaller and I didn't really receive any breathtaking ideas. Also - wtf of the day:: Last submissions was exactly a year ago! http://news.ycombinator.co

The WP7 ad actually made me think twice about where we as humans should be going.. I love my desire and find myself in a lot of those situations, but is that what we want? Also, it ended by saying "this is what happens when you use other ph

JSON template looks nice. Great feature set. I don't know about the python version, but I had a look at the Javascript code for json-template. At first look it seems pretty "hacky". The main obvious flaws I saw were: - it's polluting the gl

My thoughts exactly. Companies in the same industries will probably have a similar profit/employee. In my opinion, this comparison would only have been interesting if a large chunk of companies within the same industry would have been mea

Which version of v8 was being used in 2.x/3.x ? The v8 change log is very detailed. Anybody got a helicopter view of speed improvements and/or other changes?

It's a good point. When you have complicated templates, usually these JS template libraries fall a bit short.

There are definitely drawbacks, but I'll tell you the best two reasons I know why you should render partials in JS: - It means you can render partials to the user before you receive data from the server. So things seem to happen instantaneo

I've seen much worse. One being a client billed 7 hours x roughly $150 for... wait for it... modifying a dns entry... This is not a joke, and it was a pretty sizable dev shop here in iceland

It would also be interesting to find out what kind of logic is being performed in those stored procedures. It sounds like somebody's relying too much on them for logic (besides data-logic).

I absolutely agree. Also, complex queries should be handled by performing them periodically on your backend stroage offline, storing the results in something like redis and then simply read from the redis DB online. I think simple redis que

This is a favorite topic of mine, but the post is weird. I had a bit of a problem gasping exactly what their problem was and how sqlite (of all things) fixes them. Some of the sentences seemed like they were edited multiple times before end

That might be right. It is both a blessing and a curse to judge these things based on your own opinions and maybe that's what I'm doing right now. Because I actually want to use this. Not for everything, but I for many things I can imagine

I'm not saying this will replace Wikipedia and I'm not saying there's a problem with Wikipedia as it is - I'm just saying that there are use cases where everything is not a nail. I'll bet you that 90% of the time you hit up Wikipedia you'll

I simply don't agree with Eric on this one. His main argument seems to be that this startup isn't adding anything of any value to the space. The way I see it is this: Wikipedia is not very consumer friendly. It's dull looking and the entrie

I like the cleanliness of not needing a browser. But it seems like you'll have to duplicate a lot of functionality and as soon as there are a couple of things you can't test against or that don't produce the exact same result then this beco

That's a pretty poor title for an article. It's a naive to blame it on the outline property. You can do whatever you want with the outline, just remember to make it do something else when it receives focus. This applies both to input boxes
