You get an offer of X shares or options. What is often carefully left unsaid is how many shares exist. Also left unsaid are what rights you have, once you start vesting, to know about the financials of the company.

This was a copyright issue about locally hosted images. Heise changed the initial image and everyone is happy. I'm happy to hear you trust Google, but trying to warp this into a smear on Facebook (my employer) about trust is in poor taste.

These are not simple questions. If you are a journalist, follow the money. I personally suspect that the offensive use of patents, both by "trolls" such as Lodsys and large players such as Microsoft, has stepped on enough toes to cause cert

What precisely are you upset about? I did not work on this feature, but I'm trying to understand your reaction. Your friends entered their phone numbers. They are your friends. You can see those phone numbers if they choose to allow you to

The icon is pretty nice. Reminds me of the Front Room screen or whatever it is on the Mac. Glad you fired that other joker who did your icons. I had problems (probably not you) installing it directly from the phone. I got the usual "Terms a

I think that's the point of disagreement. Advertising is often inane and wasteful, but in my opinion it's not fundamentally evil. If we serve more relevant ads resulting in clicks/sales/etc, we get more revenue. We get happier advertisers,

If "more about" means "non-zero", sure. I don't work in ads now, but I appreciate the extremely tricky and fractal problem they are trying to solve, in the same way I appreciate the work people do in security, design, features, reliability,

I happen to work for Facebook, and a large fraction of my friends and family are expatriates. A place to easily keep in touch, share photos of kids, chat with abuelita, all that boring stuff, directly improves our quality of life. When I re

I really wish Google or one of the big email providers would add an unsubscribe button. It would try to do the right thing in the unsubscribe flow, and apply a personal filter, but not penalize the sender.

Related tidbit: the Spanish generally use the generic "carne" to mean red meat from cows. But there is also a specific word, "biztec", which is a corruption of the English "beefsteak".

That's an interesting (and uncomfortable) idea, but a deeper problem is how to tell the "good" and "bad" recruiters apart. This is the same problem of telling "good" and "bad" candidates apart, and the irony is not lost on me. What is your

It's a rabbit hole. You'd think that banning the name anti is a good heuristic given handles like anti Christ. But anti is a perfectly valid name in parts of eastern Europe.

Not even my passport has it right. My "real name" is ridiculously long and formal, and I refuse to use it. Luckily my shortened name passes. Unfortunately it collides with a famous futbol star, so you never know what will happen.

The biggest problem when the 911 (and equivalent emergency services) was getting the word out there that it existed. It required a huge, years-long marketing campaign. Perhaps they should have inhouse ads targeted at keywords like "report v

It's not religion. You are using a different (and objectively better) standard of proof. But it's literally a billion times easier to measure things like that than it was 240 years ago, when all math was done by hand and the fastest communi

I can't speak for the rest, but "Why don't they just make Google+ a self-policed community?" is because companies operate, and users live, in sovereign nations and are subject to the laws of those nations. Setting up a parallel legal framew
