Perhaps the lack of a good substitute is why the author is so frustrated. Also, given that he works for a XML document processing company, I don't think he wants to use XSLT as a general purpose language.

I have another hypothesis: Maybe they don't want to make it so blatantly obvious that only a small portion of their handsets, excluding even phones introduced in 2011(1), will actually get the Android 4.0 update. So they might want to downp

"miraculously everyone will rush to build great products with razor-thin margins" Not a very neutral reproduction of a hypothetical comment! I would even say that it is suggestive.

The old alternative in Germany was that you had a piece of paper with numbers on them. So it absolutely may be a step backward.

I somehow got the feeling that, working for Microsoft, SPJ couldn't say "Haskell is the language for everything", even if he wanted to, because that would undermine the official position of his employer. But then, maybe he could say it. I d

I think just creating the standard is not the problem. If W3C had a policy "We don't care about patents", nobody could sue THEM. However, if anybody wanted to actually use those standards, he/she would get sued.

So what you're asking for is not to use the emotionally cold language of marketing, and use the warmer language of traditional human interaction instead? Perhaps not a bad idea.

Made me smile... or would have, if I wasn't a German Very Serious Person. ;) I don't think "drill" is such a good translation though. Höhlen comes from "Höhle", meaning "cave". Maybe a better translation: Steady water hollows the stone. And

A number of things: 1. I'm pretty sure Google already makes money for Android, through advertising and such. 2. If the Motorola acquisition goes through, Apple may not be able to extract much in terms of royalties, given that it almost cert

Warns? I think that's awesome, but maybe I just love robots too much. That, or people just fear things they don't understand, and robot traders are even harder to understand than human traders, I guess.

Excuse me? Could you please explain, as I fail to see how a tragedy of the commons arises. (Of course patents are problematic, but the reasons that I know of are not related to the tragedy of the commons in a way that I'm aware of.)
