Can't have been that cheap if they thought buying Bun for an undisclosed amount of money was cheaper.

Some of the esoteric syntax choices are a bit strange; for example, a function with a list argument would be [[myfunc]](< 2, 3, 4>) If you're having symbols, why not just use python syntax there? myfunc([2, 3, 4])

So for every new SQLite db you want to access would have to run a new untrusted executable? That seems… hilariously bad for security.

I think you can maintain full backward compatibility with all these changes. SQLite has a bunch of meta-data that you can use to see that no earlier editions have modified your database since you last wrote. You make the new editions follow

I am a car person. I have a fun-to-drive car that I have modified. This guy is getting all the hate he deserves. You don't get to be an assh*le and subject everyone to loud exhaust (I looked up his exhaust, it's 105 dB!), and be u

Whether they are purposefully inflicting it on others or not, it takes a certain type of inconsiderate person to say "F*ck everyone else and their preferences for intact eardrums and uninterrupted sleep, I like the way it sounds.&quo

Hard disagree. You might be ok with loud engines splitting your eardrums and interrupting your sleep (or worse, your baby's sleep!), but society as a whole should not. Live and let live is good and all, but GP said it was about "i

I am not disagreeing with that. I am saying that having enough revenue is necessary to keep the house of cards standing.

I disagree, but not for the reason you think. They need to fund R&D to justify their high valuation. A new stock issue would decrease the valuation, and they will have a difficult time borrowing the money with their poor bond valuations

But generally: good luck! I've thought something like this was needed for a while. I've considered building similar things in the past, and always couldn't figure out how to get a critical mass of users. Here's hoping yo

A few thoughts: One 5 star rating is worse than 1000 4.5 average ratings. There's a few ways to deal with this, Bayesian average is one. I think for most aggregate ratings, thumbs up/down is all the useful signal you can get. If y

Then just wait until the next administration. If they are building with technology that relies on the FCC being gutted, they will be in for a world of hurt when that changes.

Hamlet is set in (what is currently) the past. It is self consistent. Neuromancer is set partially in the future, and partially what is our past. The inconsistency is what throws people. It can be a good book, but people might still find th

It’s great that he has that caveat, but it’s buried under the “Tech Info” tab. Meanwhile, the header says “yes -- I'm the inventor,” and there is no mention of the knots actual history in the “History” page, only how he “invented” it.

I could see there being use for putting a name for it if there wasn't one before. You can do that without pretending you invented it, though.

My problem with it isn't what he calls it, it's that he claims to have invented it. It would be fine if he said, "yes, other people have been using this knot for decades, but I like to call it Ian's knot." Would it

A bit off topic, but I hate that Ian just slapped his name on a knot and people call it that. He even has a little link on there saying "Yes I'm the inventor," which, if you click on it, amounts to "trust me bro." T

I think that is a bad example. I haven't heard of Jewish people being offended by Ferengi, but anti-Semitic depictions are very often exactly "ugly, greedy people" (just look at any Nazi propaganda). Once it becomes a common

Why would it be the same percentage increase? RAM is only one component of the whole machine. "We were going to sell our airplane for $10 million, but one screw doubled in price so now we're selling it for $20 million."
