Aquaponics has always interested me, and as an alpha product this looks pretty neat! A few questions: 1) I've heard that you don't really save money on the fish side after you take into account feed and labor. Would you characteri

I believed in the EM drive in the same way I occasionally buy lottery tickets: there's no way I could win, but wouldn't it be _so cool_ if I did?

It's a bit tautological to say "If you remove all but x, then it's comprised entirely of x." I don't think most people would agree with your definition of ads, either. The first iphone ads were probably showing a lo

Well, maybe not entirely zero sum--if the advertisement lets you know about something you'd want but previously didn't know about, that's a net plus. Then again, those diet pill ads and other scams are a net minus, so maybe i

After watching the video on the page "What is Semaphore?", I still have no idea what it is. It seems like it's Google Drive/Dropbox with end to end encryption, but part of the copy is about how people "used to work

I believe they did try or at least look into parachutes initially, but gave it up as not feasible. With the powered landing, you already have the engines there, it's just a matter of leaving a bit more fuel. It's not a lot of fuel

> Electric vehicles are many times simpler than their gas-powered cousins What does engine complexity have to do with driving complexity? I imagine that a computer would drive a car using interfaces analogous to those we use; namely gas,

I think the real cleverness of that book is the comparison of 2D creatures to 3D, and use that to guide our otherwise non-existent intuition of what 4D space would look like. I could imagine one thinking of that analogue before reading the

I think that Clojure mitigates these issues quite a bit for a couple reasons: - The core library is has enough built in that many questions are answered using built in solutions (e.g. what is done with objects elsewhere is very frequently d

It's too bad that Realm's core technology isn't open source, it would be interesting to see what other immutable databases (e.g. Datomic) would do with the ideas they've come up with. Also grafting Datascript onto Realm

Definitely not. Back of the napkin shows that to get to Mars in 3 days would need a speed in excess of 200 km/s. That is an order of magnitude larger than Mars escape velocity. Your only chance of being captured by Mars is by pancaking

That came off reading much more judgy than I had intended. I meant it's their prerogative in the same sense that serving the ads in first place was their prerogative, not that there is a moral imperative to listen when they do.

I think it's their prerogative to say "either get served ads, become a paying member, or leave." I imagine they wont mourn the loss of someone who would have likely not brought them revenue in any form, ever.

This seems remarkably similar to the Jupyter (IPython) notebook format [0]. The only big difference I can see is the separate metadata file, which I'm not so sure is a plus (since it adds the complexity of needing each notebook to be a
