Out of three things -- thin phone, hardware level security, and cheapness of repairs -- you get to pick two. FWIW, I've lost 2 chromebooks to TPM failure in 18 months.

This is still not as bad as the newer laptops in which TPM is soldered onto motherboard and the OS won't boot if it's damaged. You can't even get it repaired, even by the manufacturer without getting a brand new motherboard.

I do understand the part where they terminated and killed of the VMs. I do not, at all, understand why they deleted the backups. How can the CEO sit in his chair and make that decision? If he didn't and he doesn't know, why is he

Mostly time saving. With Majd Sakr teaching this, I expect fair amount of distributed systems content in here. Although if a student at CMU does have time, a better roadmap is to take the new parallel programming course, along with distribu

Parse Server uses Mongo, there are plenty of operations-free Mongo hosting options, like Compose. Also, Parse server code itself could be given to company such as Heroku or AWS beanstalk to host it for you.

I believe I'll have the same problem with this app that I have with Kindle -- the lack of flipability in the name of apparent convenience and simplicity. There is an unspoken importance in an inbox glance, in seeing a list of "und

It can be very messy to upgrade for a sizeable chunk of developers. Linked libraries, lost compatibility. If the system gets unstable you lose years of installed dependencies. I mean some of the unix apps take literally hours to install, an

What is up with every app requiring 10.8 and above? It's fine for others but very unsettling for developer tools. I still know devs on 10.6.x! This is even more weird when you consider that laptops that came with 10.7 went out of Apple

I still use Awk. I picked up Awk for some random 15-123 assignment in sophomore year. I still use it for automating/shell scripting anything that I need to. I could use Python or something hip. But I haven't quite grown out of my

I plead ignorance here. I'm sort of out of touch with recent developments, with typically just buying a cert when I need it. So I have a question -- where will Let's Encrypt certificates not work? I see Mozilla and Chrome as spons

True. There is no denying that on-prem Gitlab has its uses. Maybe not for me, but I can respect that. The point I was making in the original comment was that Gitlab has absolutely no options without heavy onboarding that is hosted as well a

Except that it's unreliable, the website says so. Let me ask again, is there any plan without $390 onboarding provided by Gitlab that gives me following features: 1. Hosted Git. 2. Reliability. There is none. I don't know why you

If I have to host myself, why won't I simply host Git? The point of these services is peace of mind. If I'm managing on-prem, it kind of kills the point.

I said if I wanted hosted option, then their only reliable option is $390 onboarding. Which is true. If I must go on-prem, then I might just use git directly? Meanwhile at Github, $7 gives me hosted private repos. It's free on Bitbuc

It's the sign of having more videos of shorter length than having less videos of longer length. Most basic HTML courses are around 20-25 parts. That does not mean HTML is rocket science, or a broken mess.

For a starter drone even $100 is a lot. Two things that you don't realize in demos are: 1. Drones are notoriously hard to fly. 2. The battery life is a true buzzkill. Even Parrot lasts 15 minutes or so. What you want to do is buy a che
