It's not quiet the same, people were going from theater towards home video. In India, people are going mobile-first. So in effect, it's reversed. The problem with mobile-first is that it doesn't show that people have moved on

I think they are overvaluing brand loyalty here. I don't even understand people who can shop using mobile apps, especially clothes. You cannot easily compare, read reviews, get a gist of product or compare with other websites before bu

That has nothing to do with open source. Winamp is not actively developed, but I can still use it as long as I have the binary. So by your definition, is Winamp dead or alive? The point is - a software is considered dead when there is nobod

What you fail to analyze is why MS got that way. They got there because they dropped the ball on IE post XP. When MS stretched violently with IE 6 back then, they changed the web landscape forever, they were light years ahead of competition

I don't know why comments here think it is Metro IE repackaged. It doesn't look anything like it (it looks more like Chrome than Metro IE), doesn't have the same rendering engine, supports crazy amount of new functionality: 1

Here is my feedback: 1. The main section of your CV is filled with things that are either not that impressive compared to other things you have done or are hard to judge on. "4x speedup on Docker," how many machines? What infrastr

Hard to see problem with this behavior. It is the same reason we don't ride horses to work anymore - better stuff available. We didn't read at all, then we read leaves, then we read scrolls, then we read books, now we read the int

Another Indian e-commerce site Tradus did this last year, and they failed so badly they went back to stealth mode. Having said that, Flipkart might be just big enough to actually pull this off. I must note that it is highly irritating. They

I feel stupid. I never even thought of it as a bookmarking tool. When I have to bookmark, I just bookmark the repo page in the browser. I never thought of GitHub stars as anything more than a "Kudos, Good job" tool.

Couchbase (then CouchOne) seems to be doing pretty well. SendGrid, Buffer, Storenvy, are others that come to mind. I think that there are more founders that were rejected by YC that became successful, not startups.

I am not sure I agree. How would they quantify and publish their instincts? "We've got 43% hunch that you will wet your pants in first 10 board meetings." I don't think so. It is too complicated for the numbers to be dis

Finding a mentor for getting better at code is probably not the best way. The best way is to build, break, build again. Great programmers are masters of detail, you only get to detail with daunting experience in things that won't work.

From what I tried, it seems to be working on templates, similar to Eliza. However, in some templates it grabs data from Wolfram Alpha. Very hard to find a non-canned response not coming straight from Alpha. Still, a good project and obvious

As I said before, we already have plans that give access to basic websites for $0.5 a month. Facebook-only access is like $0.1 a month. But with these plans, I can still access the rest of the web if I choose to, I just have to pay. $0.5 is

That quarter and a half billion cannot afford a smartphone yet. So mobile data scheme for apps is not a conversation about them. It is peanuts for people who can afford a smartphone.

It's not a scheme for people struggling for food. Airtel Zero is only for companies offering Android and iPhone apps. If a person can afford a $120 phone at minimum, they can pay $3 a month. The "poor" is a marketing stunt he

Okay, this has nothing to do with supporting the poor as the comments here are suggesting, and as Airtel is trying to paint it. Poor can avail month-long 1GB data at $3 in India. All major providers have a plan that makes Facebook, Whatzapp

While there are great options mentioned here, I would actually be suggesting that you stick to a very good systems book. A standing knowledge of lower level systems and instruction code will give great depth to your debugging skills. Nothin
