You don’t let people start up the service if it will exceed a cost quota. For ec2 that should be easy since the cost ticks at a constant rate and can be extrapolated in advance, but yeah other usage based services like s3 and network traffi

I do the same thing and would also really love to know who thinks it’s in any way good. I hit it all the time by accident and suddenly in the middle of typing iTunes pops up, or an IntelleJ config window, vi sort of works but amazingly the

Right, the CIO is also being held to a lower standard than a P&L. The CIO could have planed out an interim solution to meet the business needs quicker. If the tables were turned, say the CIO needed to deliver a service and didn’t have a

I’ve been part of similarly generalized ACL systems and it’s pretty straightforward and very similar to Zanzibar. Though we didn’t need n ACLs and could assume the list wasn’t too long, so we didn’t need a tree. If we did, then we’d have en

The distinguishing feature I see compared to other systems is the ACL ordering and consistency, which is indeed difficult to do at scale. Looks like Spanner is doing most the heavy lifting, great use case for the database.

So that direct sense of understanding something, without any helping intermediates like symbols or visual aids, is just the mind directly. It is its own thing. Another way to look at it, is if everything you thought needed a symbolic or phy

Yeah that requires practice in getting out of thinking physically. There’s a well known and very old exercise back from the 9th century where you visualize a man sitting in a conch shell, and the man has not shrunk and the shell has not cha

It’s because you’re caught on thinking dimensions are physical, if you realize it’s all really just data it’s pretty simple since you’re doing it already.

It’s because concepts are just dimensions of information, they don’t always have a physical representation, you can associate and create different levels of abstractions, have different views, sort of like an OLAP cube. You’re doing this al

Quite right, for the sake of a visual mental support of a 3d imagine you’re limited to three dimensions, where as the mind doesn’t have these limitations and is n dimensional.

I think the I in AI is going to come to mean Idiot after a while due to the lack of nuanced perception and just going off of broad brush strokes. It’s akin to jumping to conclusions, we’ve just created computers that can do that now.
