People are not upset because "Level 1" was taken away from them. For artists and creatives, _all levels_ have been taken away. And for most, their very basic needs (i.e. income) are being taken away. And all that, just so we can g

It must be quite valuable data. One anecdote I heard/read somewhere was that firms often use satellite imagery of parking lots (over time, as one measure among others) to gauge how popular a place is. I don't know if it's tru

When you, your friends, and your own children's livelihoods are at stake, the least you could do is make them clear their throat a bit as they try to buy time to answer your questions.

The ever changing scene is so convenient. Makes it impossible to criticize it in any meaningful way.

I wonder if having the world's largest search engine putting it front and center for every search query and can't disable it has something to do with it. Or for the world's largest social media platforms put it front and cen

Most/some of what we call slop now was more generally accepted before AI. Slop is not only the content. It is the volume, and it is the lack of intent or value from the producer. No amount of data is going to fix that.

The usual response to this is the "but high level languages are deterministic blah blah blah" (which IMO would be a good enough argument but well, we know how this goes now) I posit a different argument. When you install a compile

I was rewatching Rich Hickey's "Simple Made Easy" talk (as one does) and there was a great line about full test coverage. "What's true about all bugs in production? (pause for dramatic effect) They all passed the te

Huh. I wonder if the original intent was to merge an AI generated PR to a high-profile project like Zig. It makes the headlines and generates hype. But that went embarassingly bad for them so they had "port Bun to Rust" as a backu

I wonder if the countries that don't have "AI Sovereignty" end up being like what Japan is now, technologically. It's stuck in 90's/early 2000's tech and norms (i.e. left behind) but its infrastructure and

Lots of concepts. Release the harness that made it possible to port Bun to Rust in 9 days. That's what everyone really wants. Then everyone can go "do that but for this other goal".

Does anyone find it weird that Anthropic's Github org is `anthropics` (with an 's') and the `anthropic` username is owned by some random dude in Australia? Imagine the shenanigans someone can achieve with that user.

It's the same thing with their gcc stunt. It would be _so_ easy to alleviate any doubt from this and hype up the IPO even more. They just need start a separate repo with all the hidden work they needed to do to prod the AI along, and l
