It is interesting to consider what this does to the psyche of the 45k/yr employee. Do they become less likely to risk leaving this role? Do they value less the opportunity to test out a different career, even if the potential salary is

1. For the knowledge worker, employment should be measured in results (not time). I have achieved work-life balance by predetermining what I will deliver and when. My manager has buy off and he consequently doesn't care what hours I wo
