If your time is free - sure. I prefer to outsource markup consistency, repetition of same content under different tags, and promoted items management to software.

Curation is always the next step after explosion of content. Yahoo was curation of the whole internet. Then it got too hard. Now, we have enough content in tiny sub-niches to need curation on that level. I definitely see the need for curati

This does not cover the "Free" tactic that was used to make Jell-O actually penetrate the households. That story can be read in the book "Free" by Chris Anderson: http://www.amazon.com/Free-The-Future-Rad

They say they can read my browsing history. I wonder if that's IE only or will they reach out into the Firefox and Chrome, etc.

You just go ahead and keep thinking that. There might even be an award at the end of that rainbow you are chasing. A Darwin one, but still.

And if you built it on Solr or Elasticsearch, you would have facets for free as well. E.g. I'd be able to see which countries have more demand for a particular skills I have. Just a thought, not a critique as such.

The proxy will rely on distinction between GET and POST to know whether to cache. More importantly, your enterprise Load Balancer with timeout and failover configured will feel free to repeat a GET request internally to a different server w

The primary limitation comes from Lucene, which powers both. With Solr, you could change the definition and reload the core, but you will be getting some weird artifacts for the previously-indexed content. Neither Solr nor Elasticsearch sho

Solr is a lot more configurable (Search Components, Update Request Processors, configurable Schemaless processing sequence, etc). Solr includes Admin UI console which is free for production, ES has one that's only free for development.

I am a beginner cook and was moving countries. I had to start the kitchen setup from scratch. So, I got a Thermomix. It's very expensive but was a great match for my use case. Usually, the target audience is mothers with multiple kids,

Amazing. The XML files ARE the XML output directly from a Solr query (query included). And looking at it I would say they either had an issue with duplicate IDs or they did not expect any particular query to have more than 100000 results. T

You mean your users had a problem with full text search? So you solved that problem for multiple people at the expense of you having to deal with a bunch of XML files. Sounds like a win to me. After all, 2 small XML files is not THAT big a

I decided a couple of years ago that my O/S focus would be Apache Solr. But I did not start by jumping into the source and trying to fix it. I started writing projects around it with Solr being a common-theme. And with the focus being

I've listened to podcasts since before the term existed. In fact I seem to remember "Gillmor Gang" episode in which they are discussing that there is a new term going around for this thing they've been doing for a while.
