This makes sense, but specifically promotion tied bundle? Or was it just a shortcut for "did not get promoted" AND "did not get next stock grant"? I guess I am trying to understand whether this is causation or correlatio

There is a bunch of sad things in the story. But, not being FAANG engineer, there is something technical/financial in there I did not understand. Specifically: "When I didn’t get a promotion, some of my stock grants ran out and so

Apache Lucene can be as small as 5Mb, if you don't load what you don't need.

You can use embedded Lucene if you want great search but no UI/schema management and you are happy to code the integration. You can start with 3 jars (5Mb) in size and add additional jars as your needs expand (e.g. multilingual process

That is a good challenge, as I am sure their reasons were extremely technical. Twitter also uses Lucene and also in different ways. And I am not at Amazon or Twitter, so I just go by their public presentations, quite technical ones. But bas

Well, Solr and Lucene projects are right now in the process of splitting up (after joining for versions 3-8). And, you could have always used Lucene directly as an embedded search library. Amazon does, for example, for their customer facing

Nice introduction. A good ramp-up from basic splitting to ranking. It does need to be said that when Lucene had a set of features this small, it was also pretty tiny. And, if those are the needs, one could still download it and it will prob

The descriptions are behind the link, driven by the DOAP files each project maintain. But I agree, it would have been nice to have a version of this page with first para of the description inlined in the listing itself.

Yeah, we are seeing the same problem in Solr User Group discussions. That Tika integration will need to change to something else (with Standalone Tika). Of course, Drupal's Solr module already allows to provide separate Tika, but I gue

I used to work as a senior technical support for BEA Weblogic and had all sorts of crazy situations to debug remotely. Including one time when I had to get a person to edit a config file in Vim (which they never used before), on Unix (which

That's because that page explains how to turn the mode on and off, how to fine-tune it (e.g. different date formats) and how to index formats other than JSON. Elasticsearch does not support a good chunk of this, so no need to document.

AFAIK, Reddit, Slack, Dice, Bloomberg, IBM, Apple all use Solr. Jira and Confluence use Lucene. Others use Elasticsearch and Fusion (commercial product on top of Solr). See, for example: https://www.activate-conf.com/more-e

If you buy 2-year 24-credit subscription, your per-title cost drops to about that $9. And that means you can wait until 2-for-1 sales and have lots of credits to benefit from. Also, if you try to unsubscribe, they sometimes offer a much-red
