Yeah, I guess it’s tricky. As a new parent I had essentially told my manager I wanted to put the brakes on career progression for one year, and he was very receptive. So I understand that perspective a bit.

I was wondering the same. Nothing against the project, but from reading about it I’m confused why I would choose this over my preferred OS (and therefore how it makes enough money). But then again there are so many distros it’s not that sur

Wasn’t the Model 3 the “low cost” one? Is there supposed to be a cheaper one? Cars are so confusing these days - $40k USD just seems like the average price now. My neighborhood has so many Tesla roofs I was actually surprised by your commen

If your debugger implements the DAP protocol then Neovim is currently capable of a just-as-good debugging experience in my opinion. The sole exception in my opinion is remote debugging (it’s not too bad, but JetBrains really bootstraps this

Neovim user, so a little different. I used to regularly use GoLand for ~3 years before I made the full switch over, and am a bit of an evangelist of it. I'm simply faster in it. I'd probably say the initial main attractor was moda

This is not tribalism. I’m detailing a history of why I stopped using Windows, because the updates were frustratingly annoying. If it wasn’t every week, it certainly felt like it - perhaps it was every other week. But it’s not dishonest to

There is always the option of writing your own derivation for specific versions too, however. I don't think mentioning Nix is meant to be sarcastic - this is a function the package manager has built-in by default, so it is worth mentio

My previous experience with Windows (~3 years ago) was that every single update took ~2 hours to complete, and they were asking to update weekly. I used to game weekly with my friends, and because of the above problem, I would have to turn

I was an ardent JetBrains user for years, and still enjoy their software. But I transitioned fully to NeoVim and there just isn’t anything I had to give up. It took a little more modification but the initial cost resulted in a much faster e

I’ve found #2 is just not that practical. Too many plugins just aren’t that portable because they depend on underlying binaries (LSP support in Neovim for example). Maybe minified, portable vimrc but even then, it makes me wonder, why not j

I do love JetBrains products. But they were too memory-hungry for me. I stepped away from GoLand and into Neovim and it’s been by far the best experience the past year and a half. So far, there is not a single feature I miss or haven’t been

In packer, at least, you can pin plug-in versions. I’ve never had the issue you describe - I suspect precisely because I keep my plugin count lean and pin each dependency so it’s always deterministic.

This is like saying a library is incomplete because it does one thing well, and if it’s not a full-fledged framework it’s useless. I recommend learning about Unix and the associated philosophies - you sound like there’s a lot more growth in
