It's sort of the same envy I feel when I see student loan forgiveness. I worked a ton (30+ hrs weekly) in college, and 40+ hrs during summer/winter break, to ensure I graduated college with no loans taken. And now to see loan forg

For junior developers reading this: frameworks introduce additional complexity (especially ones with obscure dependency injection), learn how to use different tools properly and analyze when they should/should not be used. Learning you

Yes-ish. Not FTX, but Celsius (very similar situation on a smaller scale). I was aware of Mt. Gox, and I do see the irony. I invested 25% of my crypto portfolio with Celsius. The rest was, and is, in an offline wallet (though after Celsius

I think the same thing. The concept of retiring early has never made sense to me - but I enjoy writing software, and building things, and learning things, etc. Financial independence does make sense to me, but only in-so-much that I want

Their 2FA is awfully annoying. I’ve seen they basically require you to have YouTube installed as well in order to verify it’s you (why would I need that if I already have you password + code)?

I hope this doesn't come off critical - but what does this offer over a flakes-based `devShell` with `nix develop`? The two things that stand out that maybe look slightly easier are the processes section, and the pre-commit hooks secti

Why not use Nix in production, then? Hermetic evaluation of all dependencies allows a deterministic dev/prod set of environments. I, at the very least, completely disagree with you on this specific point as this tool is using Nix.

Can you elaborate on what about it is clunky? I've used it as my daily driver for the past year so maybe I can help elaborate too.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I wasn't implying there should be a central team to manage it. One of the beauties of Nix is providing declarative dev environments in repositories, which means to fully embrace it each individual team sho

It sounds like your issues with Nix stem from its steep adoption curve, rather than any technical concern. This _is_ a concern for a team that needs to manage it - I agree. I'm quite diehard in terms of personal Nix/NixOS use, but

I think Nix could be leveraged to resolve this. If the dependencies aren't perfectly matched it downloads the _different_ dependencies, but can use any locally downloaded instances already. So infra concerns are identical. Remove any s

I've honestly thought about recording my work sessions to do the same thing. RescueTime works _somewhat_ to track when I get distracted on something, but moreso I'm interested in identifying when I do something suboptimally and pl

I just can't really believe this at all, unless these companies entirely crumble. It's just not feasible for the majority of folks to live comfortably in the Bay Area with a family at less than $200k TC. I make ~$300k/yr and

I’ve tried Zettelkasten for about a year now - it’s a massive time sink, and I’m not sure I’ve seen enough fruits to be worth it, to be honest. But I also don’t publish writing so maybe that’s my fault!
