Sounds fascinating. Seems like there is an inefficiency in the system somewhere though -- if downtime is so expensive why are they not paying better trained people to be mechanics? At $10K\hour a skilled mechanic/engineer would only have t

I think this would be a good idea -- though keeping a lid on the feature creep would be a challenge. OTOH it wouldn't help everyone: my grandmother treats anything electronic as 'too complicated' without even trying at this point, though t

Technically how should he know jquery.com is more trusted than jquery.it? jquery.com does NOT appear to have a fully valid SSL certificate: Chrome gives me "the site's security certificate is not trusted!" Like it or not, Google is an impor

Agreed -- 100% code coverage is impressive, but only means you are testing the code you've written. What about all the cases you forgot about. By definition you forgot about the tests too. What about all the interactions between module A &

Fortunately with a desk that goes up and down that is an easy one to fix ... someone just needs to do a study of the ideal proportion time and frequency for changing between sitting and standing.

I ran my (slightly profitable) side project on mono and ASP.NET MVC2 for about 5 months before switching to a Windows server on EC2. Best thing I ever did ... sure it costs 3x what I was paying for a VPS, but it has been rock solid compared

I can think of use cases for wanting a quick simple, easy to configure http server. I can think of use cases for wanting to be able to serve >1,000 requests a second. I can't think of any that fall into both categories ... am I just lac

Agreed -- but that worked much better when I could buy a 13% savings bond (late 80's) than showing my kids the <$1 month interest payment they get now. I realize that inflation may well have eaten into that 13% hugely but as a pre/early

I always thought part of the reason for the switch from gallons to litres was that the price in gallons was getting too high. Now we need to switch from litres to decilitres! Wonder if this would ever drive a similar change in the States.
