Jitendra Malik, the instructor for this course, is a giant in the field of Computer Vision. I've heard he's also a fantastic teacher.

I think it's not just a matter of "exceptions to every norm." There are significant differences in the teaching philosophies of different countries, and this article argues that India's priorities are even worse than those in the US with

Depending on how much money you need to raise and how good you are at it, fundraising can take from 10% - 80% of your time. Note that even at the high end, you still get 20% of your time to work on scientific problems, which is better than

A promising direction to go would be to generate gradients using the polygons instead of colors directly and use Poisson blending [1,2] with gradient mixing [e.g. 3] to generate the final image from that. It would lead to many fewer noticea

I'm all for new publishing models in academia, but this post doesn't address the fundamental difference between the web in general and academic papers: expert curation. The web's "curation" works (to whatever degree it does) because there a

In big cities in the US it's very common for many businesses to either have a minimum for card purchases, or charge extra for small purchases, or offer "cash discounts" -- regardless of what the actual law is.

Can you give an example or two of mistakes that you had read about "in the abstract" and how they manifested in your particular case? Like you, I've found myself in situations where I realize after the fact, "oh, that's what they were all w

From a comment I made 2 years ago when this paper was brought up: I've been fairly skeptical of this paper ever since reading Alan Kay's rebuttal: http://www.secretgeek.net/camel_kay.asp I trust Kay much more than these authors on matter
