Please look past the fact that CrowdStrike is today’s, or yesterday’s, cultural whipping boy. They make software, and its users would like it to work. It’s not a good thing.

This is tiring. What would constitute informed consent for you? Is there any hypothetical bar that could be met? I’d just like to get that on the table so others know if it’s worth replying.

Sigh. I’ll happily hold my breath. Apple has done plenty to reduce use of storage. They even give you free iCloud storage to back your phone up when transferring to a new device. A very clear attractive source of penny pinching that they’ve

Words mean things. Please use the right words. 1. As another commenter points out, your device works exactly as it did before. 2. Nobody on the face of the earth is making a decision about whether or not to buy a new phone based on JPEG-XL

Where did that come from? It feels like you’re working backwards from some bad feelings felt about Apple.

…Firefox as an alternative to Chrome!? Am I really that old!? I used Chrome for years and years, right from when it first came out. Since then, I switched back to Firefox, and have used it for years. It works perfectly fine.

Don’t let facts get in the way of Apple bashing. Apple already does so many legitimately anticompetitive things (see: iOS EU blah blah), so resorting to this low-quality complaining is very lazy.

I wish I could downvote this drivel into the ground. The author is clearly working backwards from their utter grumpiness toward Apple. I’d love to see this exchanged with a ‘source’ that’s not a wannabe tech journalist poorly editorialising

The answer to this is that anyone that’s thinking in this way is already so elbow deep in security fetishism that real-world implications have long stopped mattering.

It’s not that Tesla has uniquely worked it out. It’s that the other options in your country basically only exist out of spite. We know how to do charging networks now. Eventually, someone in the US will see the worth in it.

They want to display how they’re truly intelligent (unlike LLMs) by checks notes rehashing opinions that they’ve read millions of times online. Sound familiar to anyone?

These sort of “Tor evangelism” comments are so tiring, frankly. There are quite a few like it in this thread, in response to…not people poo-pooing Tor, or throwing the baby out with the bathwater, rather making quite level-headed and reason

That’s a very glib HN take. Interest in family trees predates Ancestry.com and will certainly outlast it. It’s not necessarily about contact. I’m not sure what’s controversial here.

Amen to that. I work for an organisation that operates in a sector that I care about deeply. I am a high performer, but ‘doing well at work’ is more a byproduct of me following my passion.

Only an American would ever entertain this idea without being at least a bit tongue in cheek about it. The US doesn’t own the Internet.

No! Stop! Why won’t this one die! MITMing is a two way street. I could intercept sensitive data, or I could shove something in that tricks the user (phishing, etc), exploits the user agent, and more!. “You only need encryption for the sens

Paying someone as sporadically as you would a contractor but they’re only getting their usual hourly wage? Doesn’t sound expensive to me. Sounds like a ridiculously good deal for the employer.
