> What does it mean for inequality to "tear a community apart"? A decent enough summary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_of_economic_inequality _British researchers Richard G. Wilkinson and Kate Pick

Progressive income tax reduces wealth inequality. People start in a very unfair game and it prevents the rich getting richer, and the poor getting poorer. Wealth inequality tears communities apart.

Completely irrelevant on the timescale of all human history, and delusional on the 100 year time scale of clear anthropogenic climate change.

I think very clearly, I’m not a Tesla fan but the solar roof and car are both unique and the core fan base is very strong.

I’m an optimist that it’s possible. There are systems that are private but for legitimate government requirements with sensible public oversight. Maybe not in your jurisdiction, that would vary more than just about anything.

I’m saying it would need to be private, but still able to prevent money laundering, payments for sex trafficking, drug trade, weapons trade. I’m aware such a thing doesn’t exist and may never, but this would be the ideal state IMO.

The problem here is that there isn’t a non-private-enterprise privacy sensitive (although accessible with appropriate warrants etc) cashless money system IMO. Cash enables so many problems in the world I’ll be happy to see the end of it.

I actually found this https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-26/great-barrier-reef-va... very compelling as a logical person. I think it helps to quantify the issue to people who are dealing with their pressing issue

A red light camera doesn’t watch you everywhere, it watches you at a traffic intersection where you are already watched by highway cameras, other people. It only retains a photo (of a car, usually the back) if you run a red light too.

“This is inconvenient and expensive which gives me the unilateral right to steal your intellectual property”. It’s an interesting take, that you get to steal anything you like if it isn’t priced and sold how you want.
