I don't get it. I don't understand why things can't be deprecated and why this requires a 100% new clean slate rewrite that actually loses functionality (the ability to run remote). The other problem is priorities. There ar

From day one Wayland struck me as a completely unnecessary effort that could instead have been spent making Xorg better and fixing its problems. If aspects of Xorg are ugly, create new extensions and deprecate the old ones and set a sunset

QE infinity? QE tends to lead to asset inflation. Given that the dollar is depreciating, I'd say we are seeing a real reduction in housing costs but not (yet?) a nominal one.

If there's a silver lining to this pandemic, it will be an end to the 20+ year trend of "you have to be in one of 10 cities to have a real career." This is terrible for the majority of the country. It leads to brain drain and

There's a simple economic explanation for this. There are more black (and BLM sympathizers of other races) customers in the US for these companies than there are Chinese customers and especially Chinese customers affected by CCP injust

That's how you get to be a Twitter celebrity: be either divisive or entertainingly obnoxious. Be a clown or lead a lynch mob. It also overlaps to some extent with how you get to be a real celebrity, but social media makes the effect mo

Agreed. This is an absolutely horrible name that I'm sure was chosen by poll or committee. What was wrong with Riot anyway? It wasn't the best name but it was known. Most name changes are mistakes.

A name like that is going to select very strongly for a certain audience, and one that is quite a bit narrower than 'woke.' You're going to get a lot of Nazis and similar fellow travelers.

Will we have a choice? The Fed has tremendous influence over the economy in the short-medium term, but over long time horizons they are actually at the mercy of it.

This is what I see in California with the bag ban. People use multi use bags once, resulting in a net increase in plastic use. This is a hard problem. A ban will not fix it and may have perverse effects like increasing usage and pollution.
