Ah, I read "any key" as referring to the delete/backspace keys. In retrospect it makes perfect sense. To be honest, I still consider this efficient and consistent. Deletion and replacement are both operations that can be applied to selectio

Er, sorry, could someone explain why this is bad UI? I frequently want to delete in both directions, and delete a selection. Seems efficent and sensible to me. In fact, I find Macs are almost impossible to use for text editing because of th

Admittedly, this is a tech demo which was designed to pack in the maximum amount of variation into the shortest possible time frame. Game development typically reuses the same carefully-crafted assets (particle systems, models, textures, sh

They probably mean the 6-core i7-9* series, distinguished from "regular old i7" by their Gulftown architecture and 50% higher transistor count. But yeah, I thought that term died a while back.

Realtime graphics are finally blurring into stylized film. I expect in another ten years or so we will, for all intents and purposes, have the horsepower to render photorealistic scenes. The bigger problem may be finding ways to create this

Riak, by default, uses a replication value of three. Your single test machine has to do ~three times the work, so you should expect slower performance here. (I'm oversimplifying somewhat.) You'll see significantly improved performance on a

Bitcask is an in memory datastore because it keeps a copy of the entire dataset in memory. Begging your pardon, but I think you may be misunderstanding bitcask. The bitcask keydir is stored in memory, but the values are stored on disk. Th

To my knowledge, there is no such thing as an in-memory bitcask backend for Riak. Could you have been using regular Bitcask (keeps values on disk in log-structured files) or the ETS memory backend?

I believe the limit using the current bitcask backend is (40 bytes + average key size) * (replication factor) / (number of cluster nodes * memory capacity of the smallest node). If that factor grows above 1, you can't store any more. IIRC c

Where's your github profile? Personal site with demos? Projects you contributed to? Anything counts, man! Even toy projects you built in a weekend just for fun, if they show your ability to reason about a problem.

This is an especially good idea as many currently deployed versions of MySQL suffer from unrecoverable segfaults as a result of receiving too many (read: more than six) SSL connections. Ask me how I know. </jaded>
