Oh, wow. I had missed that Ask HN. Thanks for making that connection! There are a bunch of cool suggestions in that thread, particularly regarding photography. I can't get over how good photography has gotten on phones.

Thank you for the kind words! Not at this time. It's only a few hundred lines of Perl. I had planned for it to be a weekend project, but I think I was able to mostly finish it on just a Saturday.

I don't charge anything from my end. Your carrier may charge something, depending on your agreement with them.

Yeah! We used to use something like that at a place I worked. I think the audience being live put some social pressure against spam. It worked out well for us, especially for big meetings where even the more outgoing folks might have felt u

In my experience, 90 days is very common in B2B. Though I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it varies by industry.

Thank you for the kind words! I guess it might depend on how your site is put together, but I bet you could whip up something like this for it pretty easy. I had meant for this to be a weekend project, but I had it mostly done before supper

Thanks for that link! I remember hearing of Posterous, but I don't think I ever tried it out so that was an interesting read.

Yep, I keep a hash of the incoming number and associate that with the path. The path itself is not based on the hash, so it can't leak information that way and as a pleasant side-effect it wouldn't be hard to make customizable. I

Static SMS microblog, https://phasedust.com Been trying this out with friends and family for a couple of weeks. Some things we like about it: no setup or signup, fast and snappy, doesn’t demand or abuse attention. Some things I’

I didn't know about Mailchimp's RSS-to-email, that's pretty cool! I've worked with RSS before; I think it would be pretty straightforward to add. Colors make sense. Maybe whole themes to pick from? For custom URLs are yo

Hey, HN friends. I was thinking a lot about The Old Web when I built this, so maybe some of that sentiment came through, but I tried not to make it so quirky that folks wouldn’t get it. I’ve been trying this out with friends and family for

I do something like this. You can write HTML almost as simply as text if you ignore some current best-practice.

It could be just that simple. I wonder too if there's pent-up demand. I think it's best when bringing a dog into a new home if you can be around a lot to help them learn the ropes. I guess that goes double for a puppy, but I think

Not sure about OP’s costs, but I sell physical goods and have a similar attitude: I don’t want money from anyone who’s not delighted to give it to me. Most people are good most of the time and it works out fine. I have had a couple of obvio

The Ruckus has a modern four-stroke fuel-injected engine. It shouldn’t smoke or make a stench.

NIC happens at retail. I suppose it would take time for retail sales volume changes to ripple back through the supply chain, so maybe manufacturers view it as a leading indicator.

Sure, you can’t just turn it off where I live. But reducing the temperature somewhat can have a larger than expected impact on heating cost, especially in homes with poor thermal resistance. Personally, I’d cut the cable TV first (and did).

My recollection is that it was mostly for brightness. I think the amber phosphor had shorter persistence and was less prone to burn-in as well. But yeah, kinda harsh on the eyes in comparison.

The signaling data includes the real origin. CID is convenience data provided by the originator. The telcos wouldn’t use it for anything important, like billing.
