I think this is a good example of what separates HN users from normal users. The fact that the blog is on a completely different domain and using a different name is confusing. What's more, when you visit the Peertube domain it's

A few years ago I made a conscious effort to be as paperless as possible. I'm pretty much there now with almost everything I need accessible on my laptop. I use a Doxie [0] scanner and scan absolutely everything meaningful: documents,

Amazing footage. I’m sure the video distorts perspective but it looks like they were very lucky the plane didn’t hit a skydiver after spinning. I know very little about aviation but this seems like a pretty foolish and avoidable incident. I

As a hiker and someone who is aware of the difficulty and frustration in mountain rescue teams being called out on avoidable rescues, I don't think there is enough detail here to immediately point blame at the hiker. It mentions that t

I'm surprised not to see this pop up on Hacker News already. This is a video from the Smarter Every Day channel on Youtube, focusing on privacy. It seems that Destin (the host) and a small team from Columbus university are launching a

What's the difference between this and the MacOS app Petrify [0]. In the Petrify blog they talk about renaming from Carbonize [1] which I assume is related to the Carbon mentioned here? Are they the same team? Is somebody repackaging a

To what extent are consoles protected from cheaters? I play COD on PS5 usually with cross play turned off. I feel like I may be a bit imperceptive as I never notice any obvious cheating. To what extent is there cheating on consoles vs PC?

How many other sites of this size have had breaches of this magnitude (financial, source code, database etc.)? This seems enormous.

I’m not particular versed on the topic but I would have thought the primary motivators are a) increased safety (in the case of cars and transport) b) freeing up countless lost hours commuting for more productive work
