There is perfectly common sense solution to every issue OP has raised. I have used JIRA for 7 years in many different teams and I think it works and does not get in my way as a developer. In my experience the people who seem to have trouble

Decide what you want. Make a plan. Take baby steps. Climb that hill and go get it. If you are thinking about dropping this whole line, my advice to you is (1) do what you need to do to get a job as a software engineer; (2) walk away from it

You are probably already a great learner then. I took the course and can definitely say it was an eye opener. Few additional tricks I picked up: * Recall(as you mentioned) is critical to understanding. Effective recall also connects a topic
