Re: Postgres, what we actually want is to offer perpetually free Postgres where multiple free customers can use the same underlying instance to make the economics work. The 90-day limit is a stopgap to make sure we're not bleeding mone

This wasn't meant to be sneaky! We're iterating on the design of the page and this is good feedback. We'll make it clearer.

(Render employee) Our free tier is actually quite constrained (e.g. your apps go to sleep if they're not getting traffic, builds are slower, etc). But if it works for you, great!

(I work at Render) You don't need to use Docker to run your app on Render. Just a build command or script which can do anything (e.g. `npm build`) unlike buildpacks which force you into a specific way of doing things. If you've tr

One of our users migrated their Nightscout setup to Render recently. Here's the render.yaml (our Infra-as-Code file): https://github.com/ianchesal/cgm-remote-monitor/blob/render-... It uses the Dockerfil

(Render employee) you were likely on the free tier; deploy speed for paid services is similar to Heroku or faster.

Thanks! Re: Env Groups, not yet, but we are overhauling the new service flow and will definitely incorporate adding env groups.

Thanks for the heads up and good to hear you were able to deploy the app manually. We might deprecate the migrator because it's hard to keep up with all the Heroku stack and buildpack configs and because manual migrations are relativel

Understood on data transfer out of the EU. It's high up on our list. Also very happy to share details on CF encryption over email (support@render.com).

(Render founder) Stuff like ^ worries me even more. What keeps me sane is our engineering team obsessing over reliability, and learning from every single incident, no matter how small. We're improving every day.

Render integrates with Gitlab repos, and you can use deploy hooks from any CI provider (including gitlab-ci): https://render.com/docs/deploy-hooks We don't have a Canadian region yet, but we'll get there!

Sorry about that. It sounds like you're on the free plan which is somewhat underpowered vs Heroku right now. Still, definitely not the experience we hope to provide and I'd love to learn more. Email in profile.

(Render founder) I haven't seen a single Render employee or investor post on HN about the Heroku incident; this comment is the first we've participated in any discussion on the topic. I'd love to see links if you can share.

(Render founder, Supabase fan) You can use both! Render will always be developer-focused even as we move into the enterprise. It's the only way to avoid Heroku's fate.

Interestingly, Heroku improved and grew quite a bit after the acquisition (2010), but ultimately, getting acquired was a personal/financial decision for the founders: https://twitter.com/_adamwiggins_/status/1
