Our daughter was born a month premature, but was absolutely normal. Yet the hospital insisted on nicu for the first night. That was already too harrowing for us first time parents. Can't imagine what you guys went through (Jacques, Noe

Sorry. Media coverage would have no perceivable difference in the nature of response to Syrians vs Ukrainians. Rightly or Wrongly it is about what people are comfortable with. Europeans are more comfortable with other Europeans settling nea

Apparently as per the house majority leader's office they have no plans to vote on this now[1]. May be he was just making a factual statement on what they have on schedule. Cynic in me thinks it is just the usual dysfunction since the

Disregarding the negative comments here, I found the article to be very much in line with my experience as a scientist in a different field working with deep learning for solving practical problems (reducing compute needed for physics, PDE

I appreciate the point you are making. Humans have ingenuity, for sure. But I have to disagree on a finer point. We do not know what the long term effect of vegan diet is. Supplements may work to an extent but may not be complete. To contr

Not eating animals does not immediately get you to vegan. Human body is not designed for a vegan diet. However, eating animal products that don't kill the said animal, (milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs etc) is sustainable and feasible. Of co

Thank you. Never knew about this service, was looking, obviously not hard enough, for exactly this. But really do think they should advertise better. This would help with managing expenses too.

If i am remembering correctly, there was a company that was using videos of lava lamps for encryption or as passwords or some such. The claim was that it is un crackable because truly random. I wonder if this can be used to emulate the phys

Care to clarify what you mean here? Had a subaru outback with eyesight a few years ago and I tested it with stationary objects in path multiple times (cardboard boxes and such). The subaru braked and stopped short of the objects 100% of the

No. If I understand correctly, what they are doing is generating "noise" samples with statistics similar to natural images. Then they use unsupervised contrastive learning to create representations of these noise images. This netw

Amazing what people can read from a comment. Notice that I said ER has long ceased to be useful and not that ERs are useless. May be the subtlety in the difference is only in my state of mind as I wrote the comment. But, what I meant to sa

I would argue that ER in the US has long ceased to be useful, unless the patient is wheeled in by police/paramedics. Last week my daughter fell and cut her forehead in a way that required stitches. We went to the nearest children'
