The irony that this is an article about reading and literature, and yet the NYT butchered it for stylistic purposes. Changing peoples names I find unforgivable.

Governance by mega-corporations working in a cartel. Having read this recent article [ https://lithub.com/how-american-tech-cartels-use-apps-to-bre... ], I fail to see how this is a good thing. Gatekeepers with self-interests

I have a Mac for Mac-type-things, and Linux for work-type-things. Neither is perfect, and I could equally complain about either. That said, if I had to give one up it would be an incredibly easy choice.

You hit a chord here with me, I've moved away from WP to Hugo & Eleventy. For interactive features like comments, the search/sort/filter of databases is a strong draw though, and I'm already wanting to add search to

Maven has the `-B` option, but that has the side effect of working in a no-input mode so it's not ideal. There's plenty of times I'd like to have it working interactively but without the ANSI colour codes.

It's not the FOSS, it's the distribution. As far as I can tell everything in that distro is available elsewhere.

I hate that I have to hold option everytime I maximise a window. All I want is to change the default to stretch windows and not use the fullscreen mode at all because of the other weirdness it brings.

I avoid anything to do with DHH for his views expressed on his blog. I'm sure Omarchy is nice and all, but there are other choices without the ethical baggage.

I'm somewhat allergic to Kickstarter for things I have to trust - phones fall firmly into that category. That said, a square phone is somehow highly appealing even if it looks goofy to use.

I would if I could buy new, either of these would be good options. I always buy new and run on a long cycle rather than pre-owned.

I prefer my old iPhone 8 to the new models, but without the updates it's no longer useful. I was waiting for 4th Gen SE but it never came, but in practice it's the same width and less than 2 centimetres taller. If I could have a s

Your implementation might be static json files, but it's not impossible to force other filetypes in there. This in itself makes it high risk? Allowing force-push is considered an antipattern for Git, and generally best avoided. It'

I find the idea of using Git for comments somewhat terrifying, not least of all for the permanence of the history making moderation a nightmare.

I used to use Disqus on my blog a long time ago, but dropped it with one of the many reboots. Having comments on a blog still seems like a good idea but I'm still half minds over on-page vs fediverse-based discussion, or maybe even bot

It looks like GTK & KDE both suffer from this - I get this behaviour in Thunar and in Dolphin. This is the kind of thing that makes me lose sleep. It's the same on MacOS too, at least in the latest version.

Thanks, now I cannot unsee this. Thunar has this broken sort order too, and I've no idea how to make it sort file names with hash values 'properly' - by which I mean the same as `ls` which broadly speaking on my system is 0 t

I'm not sure why I'd bother using this when it's just another Chromium browser. As it currently stands, I'm leaning more into WebKit-based, but for daily use it's Firefox. I'm not happy with any of them, but I&

The iPhone 17 in the UK still has the SIM tray, something I'm glad about. Knowing I can pull the SIM and slot it into my old iPhone 8 where there is no eSim support is valuable to me.

I run with XFCE for work to drive a mix of GTK and KDE apps. Personally I find the base system is slower, but the apps themselves are better than the GNOME alternatives in terms of functionality and visual appeal. XFCE > KDE > GNOME &

We have salted butter for the table, and unsalted for baking. We don't bake often enough to want unopened packs if we can avoid it.

Same here, although arguably even 'documents' is redundant when I can shove anything in there. The fact that I'm forced to have it at all when I want to have 'personal files' and 'work files' instead is pr

Ironically it seems (from memory, I've not researched it deeply) that continental butter has not changed from 250g, whereas the British brands have moved first to 200g. I could understand if they switched to 225g as essentially a half-

Here in the UK, there's a trend of selling 200g blocks for certain brands that ruin recipes. We have to be careful to avoid those and stick to the 250g ones. Yes, I know we could cut 50g of another block but then we'd need to meas
